We are looking for a Highways Inspector to join the Highway Maintenance Group to help us deliver a safe, sustainable, and effective highway network for all road users.

The Highways Maintenance Group within the Transport Service is at the very forefront of the efforts being made by the City Council and other stakeholders to improve maintain and develop the transport service in our City, for the benefit of its citizens, businesses and visitors. Key to this is the effective maintenance and improvements/refurbishment to all the highway and authority owned estates within the public domain.

The Highways Group delivers its own work programmes, supports other City Council initiatives and major projects, and provides expert technical advice and front-line support to both internal and external agencies and individuals. There is considerable passion, technical experience and expertise within the Group to shape the future wellbeing, success and prosperity of our City.

The role will be responsible for carrying out routine Monthly, Quarterly and Annual inspections and as such you must be willing and able to work outdoors and walk long distances.

You will be recording defects using a mobile devices to enable the timely repairs, ensuring that the condition of the public highway is maintained to a standard acceptable to the Highways Authority.

The role will require, with assistance, the preparation of legal documentation and attending court hearings to give evidence as a professional witness, to enable legal proceedings to be satisfactorily resolved. Training and support will be provided.

You should have a good eye for detail and be comfortable with data entry on a variety of IT systems. The role requires liaising with a variety of people, teams and external contractors so will suit someone who is a good communicator.
