Sainsbury’s Buying Teams ensure that we get the best products at the best prices to help us deliver quality and value to our customers. We’re a big, friendly team who negotiate with, and manage suppliers, identifying cost effective sourcing routes, and we aim to deliver on a mission that matters: Helping Everyone Eat Better. After all, customers are at the heart of everything we do.

You will own, deliver and optimise the buying and selling strategy for the Meat buying area that sits within the Meat, Fish and Poultry (MFP) category. Sustainably grow market share and cash profit through a competitive and distinctive customer offer. You will have the full responsibility for the commercial performance of the range across all our channels both online and all our stores.

When you join us as a Buyer, you’ll also work cross functionally to review product ranges, identifying opportunities for product improvement, new product development and cost savings through consolidation, tenders and efficiencies. You will make key decisions in both the Buying Strategy (product listings & negotiated cost prices) and the Selling Strategy (price & promotions).

**As a Buyer you’ll**:

- Develop and execute a customer-focused category plan in line with the Sainsbury’s corporate strategy
- Optimise the supply base and successfully manage those supplier relationships to deliver performance in line with objectives.
- Analyse financial, market and customer data to identify opportunities to deliver a market-leading product range
- Work with the range analyst to build an appropriate product range that delivers a market-leading commercial advantage
- Influence key stakeholders to gain commitment to the plan.

**Our MFP Buying Team would love to see**:

- Demonstrable buying experience (Fresh and/or Grocery)
- Knowledge, understanding and management of contracts with suppliers
- Some experience of cost stack building and analysis
- Knowledge of buying systems and processes
- Strong commercial acumen
- Ability to analyse problems and make effective decisions
- Clear and effective communication to explain complex information clearly (written and verbal)
- Ability to adapt and flex your communication style to engage and inspire confidence
- Brilliant prioritisation and organisation
- Ability to spot issues, plan to mitigate risk
- Experience to lead relevant cross functional projects through to delivery
- High levels of resilience

**Why Sainsbury’s?**

Work-life balance is important to us, so we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible in line with the needs of their role. We trust them to decide how, where and when they work, combining remote and collaborative working with a flexible approach to hours, giving them plenty of time and space for life outside of work whilst delivering against our business goals.
