**Who are we?**

Newmedica is one of the leading providers of NHS ophthalmology services in England, providing outpatients appointments, diagnostic testing and eye surgery. We interact with thousands of patients annually, from outpatient appointments to surgery to correct cataracts and helping to manage other eye conditions. We’re passionate about providing individual care for our patients and have a vision to change lives through better sight and eye health.

Our services are delivered through a variety of models including Managed Services and primarily Ophthalmology Joint Venture (OJV) Partnerships, with each eye centre focused on providing excellent care to their communities. We currently have 18 clinical sites, some of these have additional spokes meaning the supply chain spans some 30 individual locations currently. We have significant growth plans as we look to establish a national footprint and open many new sites over the next few years.

**Overview of the role**

Reporting into the Central Operations Director, the Head of Procurement and Supply Chain is a brand-new role to Newmedica. As the business expands, we are looking for someone who can set and deliver the long-term supply chain and procurement strategy for our growing healthcare business

It’s a role that can make a huge impact on the commerciality of the business, leading the supply chain and procurement team and building on the great foundations they have in place.

The role is home based with regular travel to the clinical sites when required and to our office locations in Nottingham or London about once a week to meet with the team.

**So** what will I be doing?**

This is a real broadbrush role, on one hand you'll be taking a strategic overview of the procurement and supply chain set up, using your experience and expertise to set and implement the future vision, whilst engaging the business and bringing them on the journey with you.

On the other hand, you’ll be leading and supporting your team of four, developing them and moving the function forward. This will involve rolling your sleeves up and getting stuck in operationally alongside the team when needed, promoting a one team approach.

With a large and rapidly growing supply chain, managed through our stock management system, we utilise consumables that are vital in ensuring the ophthalmic operations of our patients can take place as planned. We’ll look to you to analyse and ascertain where risk can be minimised and where performance and value of the supply chain can be better maximised You’ll look to build, maintain and leverage commercially sustainable relationships with a range of suitable third parties. Your experience of implementing agile supply chains using mínimal stocks and Just in Time principles will therefore be key.

You’ll also be instrumental in ensuring compliance with all NHS contracting bodies and that the procurement strategy meets Newmedica’s carbon net zero ambitions and that the supplier base is working towards our sustainability goals.

**What experience do I need?**

We are looking for a Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS) with strong supply chain leadership. Having experience in the medical or independent healthcare sectors would be advantageous as you’ll already understand the business model. If you haven’t worked in healthcare then we’d look for experience in another fast paced nationwide, multi-site company.

Ideally, you’ll also have worked within a Joint Venture or Franchise based business and will be well versed in how to navigate the subtleties of the decision-making processes.

You’ll have delivered substantial change and will be able to demonstrate the proven results and benefits of what you’ve implemented.

You’ll be adept at stakeholder engagement with the natural ability to build relationships across all levels and with clinical and non-clinical employees and external contacts alike.
