**Job summary**:
A high profile role, embedded within the Department for Business & Trade (**DBT**)’s Education team.

With the launch of the Government’s **International Education Strategy**, originally published in 2019 and since updated, and the ambitions laid out within it for EdTech, Schools and Early Years, it is essential that we have expertise in the UK offer in those sectors; in order to deliver real sector credibility, to maximise effective engagement with the sector and to deliver on the actions as set out in the Strategy.

The primary objective of the role is to promote the UK offer in the 3 areas mentioned above. Within the 3 areas, the primary role is as follows:

- EdTech_: work with colleagues at the British Educational Suppliers Association (BESA) and other industry bodies to help promote the UK Edtech sector; working with various ministries around the world to showcase the UK
- Independent Schools_: work with overseas investors, ministries and governments to help develop British independent schools and to help the British curriculum remain the number one curriculum globally.
- Early Years_: Help promote Early Years Foundation Stage and UK expertise in Early Years globally.

The role involves liaising with UK and overseas government colleagues to promote the UK sector overseas; working with Embassies and High Commissions to understand where opportunities exist and to explain the UK offer; working across a number of other DBT sectors where there are synergies; working towards resolving market access barriers and feeding into trade negotiations. An important element of the work is the upskilling of colleagues overseas to understand and articulate the UK offer in their respective markets, including developing marketing materials, case studies and presentations. The role acts as the central point of contact within the DBT for related policy discussions, and involves representing DBT in policy forums, roundtables and working groups and contributing to briefings and submissions to ministers.

The role will involve some travelling overseas.

**Job description**:

- Act as focal point for the Department for Business & Trade (**DBT**) Education team and primary source of in-depth knowledge for the EdTech, Schools and Early Years sectors.
- Work towards achieving the ambitions laid out in the **International Education Strategy** with respect to EdTech, Schools and Early Years; agreeing a clear set of objectives for DBT Education.
- Support DBT Education geographic team colleagues in supporting business activity, including developing a pipeline of export opportunities.
- Identify and develop opportunities with other DBT sector teams where there are synergies.
- Lead relationships for DBT with key representative bodies; undertake regular meetings with them and key stakeholders to understand their international strategy and support their members’ international aspirations via practical UK government activity.
- Develop a programme, including delivering sector briefings and developing materials to promote the UK offer such as case studies, to promote export opportunities to the EdTech, Schools and Early Years sectors; adding new providers who have confirmed interest in internationalising and all organisation interactions to the DBT database.
- Educate overseas Governments/organisations regarding UK expertise; promoting partnerships.
- Supporting DBT colleagues overseas to develop commercial opportunities; helping colleagues overseas to understand and articulate the UK offer, in particular via webinars and devising and delivering training via the Delivering through Sector Knowledge programme.
- Work with DBT colleagues in the English Regions and Devolved Administrations, who have relationships with organisations in the sector.
- Act as a central point of contact within the department for EdTech, Schools and Early Years related policy discussions; representing DBT in policy forums, roundtables and working groups.
- Working closely with policy colleagues in the Department for Education (DfE).
- Undertake occasional travel overseas for events such as Bett Asia.
- Lead on sector specific trade missions and events working with geographic team leads in collaboration with colleagues overseas; with written reports covering more general issues to be provided following overseas visits.
- Work towards resolving market access barriers and feeding into trade negotiations.
