**Job summary**:
The Office for Veterans’ Affairs (OVA), based in the Cabinet Office, was created in 2019 to lead the cross-government delivery of the Strategy for our Veterans, to develop future iterations of that strategy, and to provide leadership, advocacy and improved coordination of veterans’ issues across government. The aim of the OVA is to realise the Government’s ambitious strategic vision, to make the UK the best country in the world to be a veteran.

There are around 2 million veterans in the UK and 15,000 people leaving the Armed Forces every year. The government wants to ensure that every single veteran has the opportunity to move successfully into civilian life and can access the help they need to do so. The community of veterans and their families is diverse and varied in the support people need, with the work of the OVA spanning issues including housing, health and wellbeing, employment, diversity and inclusion, historical legacy issues, finance, criminal justice and societal recognition of the value of service in the Armed Forces.

You will provide specialist knowledge in the field of evidence review and coordinate knowledge mobilisation activities with the OVA developing an internal network of individuals working in this area (i.e., the policy leads in the OVA). The individual will ensure that best practice and available evidence can be readily applied to our strategy and dissemination plans and maximise the impact of our research and evaluation activities.

The key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

- Contribute to the strategic plans and development of the OVA Data and Research Framework as part of the Veterans’ Strategy Action Plan.
- Contribute to the development of the knowledge mobilisation techniques, guidance and to make sure there is access to high quality resources.
- Provide specialist knowledge mobilisation expertise in their specific policy area.
- To develop and manage a knowledge mobilisation community of practice in the delegated policy areas with internal and external stakeholders to lead on engagement and co-production activities.
- Map and analyse engagement with knowledge leads across government and key external stakeholders (i.e., academia, charities, private sector, local government).
- Identify key research gaps using evidence synthesis and literature analysis.
- Collate and disseminate examples of impactful knowledge mobilisation activities within the Evidence team which can be shared with our OVA policy colleagues to support the Veterans’ Strategy Action plan.
- Provide strong analysis, feedback and critical review of evidence reports (reviewing studies which may use both qualitative and quantitative methodologies).
- Write and publish evidence reports, breaking down complex research narratives suitable for a lay audience.

**Person specification**:
**Essential Criteria**:

- Relevant experience of literature reviews and report synthesis.
- Experience of knowledge mobilisation approaches (e.g., networking, evidence development engagement activities, dissemination to professionals and the public, co-production, evaluation of research and evidence)
- Knowledge of the research environment and experience with working with multiple stakeholders to facilitate evidence into policy and practice
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with proven presentation and scientific/research report writing skills
- Able to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders (academia, charity, local governments and private sector)
- Able to work under own initiative, respond to sudden unexpected demands whilst maintaining a professional calm and efficient manner
- An understanding of and commitment to equality of opportunity and good working relationships
- High level of energy, self-motivation and determination to deliver

**Desirable Criteria**:

- Post-graduate degree (Masters or Masters of Research)
