SSE has made the strategic decision to invest in solar and battery projects in the UK. In recognition of the importance of the strategy it has established a separate business unit (Solar and Battery) to deliver its aspiration to develop solar and battery storage at scale and at pace. With this aspiration is a significant investment commitment for acquisitions and in-house greenfield development. Projects will be developed under both Town and Country Planning and NSIP legislation.

Reporting to the Director of Development, Solar and Battery (S&B) we are looking to appoint a planning professional.

The key duties & responsibilities will be:

- To use your extensive planning experience and expertise to advise the S&B management and wider team on all planning matters.
- To undertake initial assessments of our projects planning prospects.
- To appoint and manage our planning consultants and to ensure that they are perform to the highest standards, consistently and diligently.
- To support our Project Management Teams as they seek to secure planning permission and amendments for their projects.
- You will be the primary professional planning interface with our external providers.
- You will advise on planning strategy, including appeals processes.
- You will ensure that NSIP and TCPA consultation exercises are carried out with full regard for the SSE’s reputation and brand.

SSE’s area of interest includes England, Scotland Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland. Experience of working across these geographic areas would be advantageous.

**What do I need?**

To be considered for the role, we will be looking for:

- Professional planner with an excellent track record.
- Likely to have extensive experience.
- Almost certainly degree qualified you will likely be a Chartered Town Planner and a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute or equivalent.
- Excellent working knowledge of both TCPA and NSIP planning processes and policies across the full planning life cycle.
- Experience of utility scale solar and battery projects.
- A very high regard for health and safety. You will be willing to embrace our safety culture and ensure it is considered in respect to everything we do.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable liaising with stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external.
- Outstanding relationship management skills and a commitment to providing a high-level service at all times.
- Resilient and hardworking you will be comfortable working in a fast paced and challenging environment where everyone if focused on the goal of developing solar and battery at pace to enable SSE to achieve its carbon zero aspirations.
