This well-established business is a very well run and stable producer of high-quality components that go into several key non-automotive OEM manufacturers across the UK and Europe.

They have a stable order book going into next year and are looking to strengthen their purchasing and material control team. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for all spending regarding direct commodities and associated materials.As it is an engineering-led business, you will have a good understanding of how to read engineering drawings and interpret bill of materials.

You will be working in a small team, purchasing direct manufacturing materials to ensure that the company’s production material needs are met, considering price, quality, and delivery and to ensure continuity of supply. You will be an excellent communicatorand people person, as stake holder management, both internally and with clients and customers is key. The business prides itself on the quality of work it produces, ensuring superb customer loyalty.

Key Responsibilities
- Purchasing of raw materials in line with specified cost, quality, and delivery targets.
- The continuity of supply aspect is managed by the Material Controller working closely and in conjunction with the buyer.
- Negotiate and maintain cost effective prices with current supply base and investigate new potential suppliers and cost reduction opportunities.
- Monitor main commodity price trends, the relevant commodity groups, being aluminium, steel, glass, zinc, plastics, seals, and substances (paint, chemicals, and adhesives).
- Work in conjunction with the Purchasing Assistant to place purchase orders.
- Operating the company computer system, Integrated Manufacturing System, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and databases.
- Maintenance of supplier appraisal system.
- Liaising with suppliers to ensure they meet the required quality and delivery standards and daily problem solving.This is done in conjunction with the rest of the purchasing and material control team.
- Supervising the Purchasing Assistant when required.
- Support the purchasing function and other relevant departments and communicate any supply problems which may impact on business operations.
- Build and maintain good supplier relationships and good communication channels.
- Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery or invoice issues and work in conjunction with purchase control/accounts - Purchase to pay system management.
- Arranging transport for bought in goods, particularly overseas, and ensuring all import paperwork is correct.
- Work on new business opportunities in conjunction with engineering and assist in collating estimated costs with the commercial department. Send RFQs to suppliers, attend NPI meetings and advise estimating on supplier selection.
- Comply with health and safety and environmental policies, company policies generally and legal requirements. Ensure all these factors are taken into account during supplier selection.
- Contributing to internal and external audits.
- Sourcing new suppliers and ensuring they are suitable to the organization.

Skills Required
- Excellent communication skills and team player.
- Negotiation skills and maintaining good supplier relations (a partnership approach).
- IT skills - MRP, Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Able to manage time effectively and be able to cope calmly with day-to-day issues. This is a hands-on role due to the nature and size of the business.
- Able to work well under pressure and handle emergency and stressful situations that derive from our big company customer base, The business custom is a team orientated/family approach.
- Driving licence and passport - occasional overseas travel required.
- Fast-paced manufacturing background ideally suited.
- Ability to read technical drawings and understand manufacturing processes.
