**How you'll make a difference**:

Vinney Green Secure Children’s Home opened in February 1995, and accommodates 24 young people aged between 10 and 18. It offers a safe and caring environment, where they experience quality care, education and recreational facilities.

You will provide general maintenance support to the Children’s Home helping to ensure the safety of young people.

**What will you be doing?**
- You will be responsible for the general maintenance of the facilities, performing tasks such as remedial painting and decorating, repairs, and small-scale improvements.
- Regularly, you will perform general horticultural maintenance duties such as pruning hedges, shrubs, landscaping work, and grass cutting.
- Daily, you will operate and use specialist equipment ensuring safety procedures are followed.
- You will perform regular building security checks, reporting any faults or issues of concern to the Facilities Officer.
- You will keep accurate records, such as stock lists.
- Occasionally, you will assist the Facilities Officer with developing provision of maintenance services.
- Liaising with external partners, you will arrange additional maintenance work where required.

**What we need from you**:

- It is a requirement for you to be able to safely use appropriate power tools.
- You will have awareness of COSSH and relevant health and safety procedures.
- It is essential for you to have relevant trade experience such as carpentry, building, decorating, or plumbing.
- You must be able maintain accurate records such as timesheets and stock lists.
- You will have the ability to work unsupervised and use your own initiative.

Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post.

**Things we need you to know**:
Working Pattern: Permanent / 37 hours per week

The salary is plus a Secure Unit allowance of £2,583 per annum, pro-rated to hours worked.

Young people can present physically threatening behaviour and the environment can become tense and anxiety provoking, so for everybody’s safety surveillance cameras are in use in most areas of the building.

Vinney Green operates a full non-smoking environment, and there is no provision to facilitate smoking anywhere on site. Staff’s personal belongings are required to be left in a provided locker on entry into the building and we may require you to undertake a further physical fitness check.

This role is demanding and there will be some physically active aspects to the job, including ‘Restrictive Physical Intervention’ which you will be expected to complete 2 days of training in prior to commencing your role - but we can assure you that this will be one of the most rewarding jobs that you will ever do
