Live-in Estate Groundsman

Our client currently has an exciting opportunity to join their very well-established Estate Team and be responsible for the garden maintenance and lawn care on an old-fashioned Oxfordshire estate. This is a Monday to Friday position, from 8am to 4pm.
The grounds comprise of extensive formal gardens, terraces and lawns and you will be responsible for the meticulous maintenance and upkeep of these lawns as well as the general grounds maintenance. There is a separate team of gardeners responsible for the formal gardens. Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- All aspects of lawn care and use of 3-gang mower
- Mowing
- Strimming
- Spraying (PA1 & PA6 required)
- Seasonal maintenance to include leaf blowing and clearing
- Vermin Control to protect fruit trees
- Proficient in the care and maintenance of all machinery such as mowers, leaf blowers and strimmers and the machinery and garden shed must be kept immaculately at all times
- Counting cattle in the spring / summer months and reporting to the herdsman
- A general on-site security presence
The main house is occupied for weekends only in the winter months during the shooting season. You will be required to be generally helpful and will be asked to assist with errands such as helping to carry the shopping in, stocking the house with logs, letting staff in during the week and refuelling cars.
You will expected to be extremely security conscious at all times. The main house has a sophisticated alarm system and you will be expected to provide an on-site presence. There is a security officer present from Friday to Monday but you are required to be “eyes and ears”, looking out for anything unusual or suspicious from Monday night to Thursday. This is shared with the estate manager who lives on-site.
The main thing to remember is that the house is a home and is used as such, even if only rarely and the Principal would like to it be kept immaculately at all times.

Accommodation is provided in the form of a lovely large 2-bedroom apartment in the stable block with all bills included. You will also have use of a shared Landrover vehicle
