**Contract Terms**: Fixed term till end of March 2025 initially - will look to make role permanent.

**OVERVIEW**

Age UK North Yorkshire Coast and Moors is an independent charity but part of the Age UK family. That means we are a local charity for local people and donations stay where they are needed, on the North Yorkshire coast and the former districts of Scarborough and Ryedale in North Yorkshire.

We work with other Age UKs and our national charity to increase our impact on the over 50s, but we provide services that are exactly what our residents need here. A perfect blend of national and local services working together.

**WHAT ARE YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES?**

As an Employment Skills and Numeracy Worker, the main priority of your role is to deliver a range of targeted interventions relating to numeracy and employment skills.

We need a person who can work with our clients and others to help people develop skills in imaginative ways. We need a creative and confident worker who has enthusiasm for this mission.

**The main responsibilities of the role are**:

- Positively promote the value of numeracy and employment skills for individuals through targeted engagement activities.
- Provide support and mentoring including, but not restricted to, Group Workshops, Diagnostic assessments, employability support, in-work support in 1:1 or group settings, using appropriate resources and tools.
- Achieve targets based on the contractual requirements set out in the maths and employment programmes.
- Support individuals to assess their current skill level, identify how this could be improved and provide relevant information and advice to support them to progress.
- Deliver personalised one to one and small group numeracy and employment related sessions.
- Equip and support individuals with low confidence in numeracy or employment skills to access opportunities.
- Support the development of relationships with stakeholders including voluntary organisations, referral agencies, schools, and community groups to identify new opportunities which will benefit our priority residents.
- Identify ways to effectively market maths and employment provision to referrers and individuals including regular distribution of course information to potential referrers.

**WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE ARE WE LOOKING FOR?**

As an Employment Skills and Numeracy Worker, we will require a DBS check prior to you commencing working with us. We also look for the following skills and qualities:

- Experience and understanding of this specific priority group to break down barriers, increase opportunity and supports progression.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to help a broad, diverse group of people and work effectively with community-based partners.
- Ability to build trust with individuals and organisations that enables them to participate in maths and employment activities.
- Experience of supporting adults to overcome barriers that hold them back from addressing their maths and employment skills, ensuring that the learners have a positive experience and clear progression opportunities.
- Excellent organisational ability and time management with the ability to work independently or as part team.
- Strong ICT skills including use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel,
