We are recruiting for one full time Cook for 2 Long days either 10 hours either 6.30am - 5.30pm with 1hr break or 7.5 hours 6.30am to 2pm with 1/2hr break.

**Introduction**

All Staff should maintain and provide a high standard of care.

All residents should be treated with respect and dignity, given a choice, privacy and allowed to be as independent as their emotional and physical condition will permit.

The duties listed below may vary according to the differences between the Homes.

**Principle Responsibilities**
- responsible for providing a quality catering service and a safe working environment. He/she will understand the need for effective budgeting, high standards of cleanliness and efficiency to enable quality meals to be produced in a friendly atmosphere.
- Assist in the preparation of menu’s to cover a four week period, and to review these at regular intervals, particularly to cater for both summer and winter periods,
- Provide a varied, interesting and attractive menu of nutritious and well balanced meals.
- Adapt the menu to accommodate the individual tastes and requirements of the residents.
- Prepare and cook meals and special diets as required.
- Supervise the layout and presentation of the dining rooms and individual trays.
- Arrange and supervise the presentation and serving of prepared food.
- Train and supervise all kitchen staff in correct procedures for the safe handling of food, use of mechanical equipment, temperature for storage of food stocks, COSHH and safe use of cleaning materials supplied and in constant use, Health and Safety and personal hygiene.
- Supervise the ancillary staff employed in the kitchen area.
- Have a working knowledge of cultural and religious dietary needs.
- Train and supervise staff in the preparation of beverages and special diets.
- Be responsible for staff in your department with regard to time keeping and personal presentation.
- Be responsible for the purchasing and budgeting of all food, regularly checking prices to ensure prices remain competitive.
- Remain within budget, discussing any anticipated overspend with the Home Manager beforehand.
- Order frozen food, dry goods, fresh vegetables and fruit, fresh meat from an approved butcher and dairy products on a regular basis to meet the needs of the residents.
- Be responsible for stock control and rotation of stock.
- Discuss with the Home Manager on a weekly basis, staffing levels, budget control, dietary requirements, current supplies and any problem areas. Report any faulty or defective equipment to the Home Manager.
- Be aware of and implement new and updated food handling requirements.
- Be responsible and accountable for the Health and Safety in the kitchen area.
- Report to the Home Manager/Person-In-Charge of any information with regard to potential or actual contamination of food or risk of infection in the kitchen.
- Cater for any special occasions for the residents or as requested by the Home Manager.

**General Conduct**

Be conversant with the homes policies and procedures and the regulatory framework with which the home is required to comply. To ensure that the home operates in accordance with these, and to carry out all duties in accordance with the homes policies and procedures.

Maintain good staff relationships within the Home and with all visitors to the Home.

Treat with respect and dignity, given a choice, privacy and allowed to be as independent as their emotional and physical condition will permit.

To understand the rights of the individual to confidentiality and to maintain absolute discretion and confidentiality at all times.
