Maintaining the rail network is a huge job. Our Maintenance Engineering team is up to the challenge. Across everything from signalling and track to electrification, they keep the network and its assets working safely and reliably. **Brief Description**:
Directing a team of Senior Technical Officers, you’ll take the lead on everything from faulting to installation. Focusing on data analysis and quality control, you’ll ensure excellence and compliance.

Our track technical teams provide support to our Delivery Teams. Track Engineers surveying track quality and designing schemes to ensure a smoother journey as well as technical record keeping and the calibration of technical equipment.

**About the role (External)**:
Based in Ashford (Kent), as Principal Technical Officer, your primary role will be lead a team of technical staff to support the delivery of refurbishment and renewal projects across the Southeast Route. You will plan, co-ordinate and undertake surveys, assist in the production of detailed track designs and supporting documentation, participate in design reviews and seek approvals as required.

You will support the construction works on site to ensure installation tolerances are achieved. You will use your knowledge and experience to develop and mentor other team members and help promote a holistic approach to the delivery of track engineering projects from a technical perspective.

**Essential Criteria**
- Experience of carrying out technical support activities, using diverse techniques
- Working knowledge spanning maintenance processes, systems and standards
- Experience in delivering track engineering works on site (including tamping)
- Knowledge of design requirements, processes and techniques
- Experience of producing detailed horizontal and vertical designs from conventional survey data
- Competent and experienced at TR13/Raising and Removing speeds up to level 4.
- Experience of undertaking gauging assessments using Clear Route 2
- Stressing level 3
- Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team
- Excellent communication skills, both in person and in writing
- Able to coach, influence and develop others

**Desirable Criteria**
- Knowledge of track construction methods
- Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need
