**Role Summary**

Here at Seashell Trust we provide Education, Health and Care services for children and young people (up to 25 years old) with intellectual disabilities, autism and associated sensory impairment, complex communication disorders and behaviours that may challenge.
We are recruiting a Therapy Assistant to work as part of our CQC registered Health team for 10 months whilst another member of our team is on secondment into a different post. The successful applicant will support and deliver therapeutic programmes (under professional guidance) to children and young people within our school, college and residential settings. They will engage them in activities to promote and maintain independence and wellbeing. The role will support our Physiotherapists primarily but at times assistance may also be required by the Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Audiology teams. This role is for 14 hours per week on a term time only basis.
**Responsibilities**
Responsibilities will include the following:

- Participate in the delivery of therapeutic support for students under the clinical and professional supervision of a qualified therapist.
- To work without direct supervision (i.e. Therapist not present but can be accessed if required) in the implementation of student programmes, troubleshooting equipment issues and reporting back to the therapist on progress.
- To support and deliver programmes to students in a variety of settings including (but not limited to) college, school, residence, hydro pool, swimming pool, sports hall, gym, on trampolines and community settings.
- To maintain accurate record keeping in case notes and to support administrative tasks including the setting up and completion of electronic templates for therapy programmes.
- Use effective communication tools, verbal and non-verbal to communicate programmes to students, liaise with parents, teachers and other professionals.
- To support the Therapists in the researching, ordering and procuring of equipment online for students; maintaining appropriate levels of stock to support the needs of the students and the service.
- To follow infection control procedures and ensure therapy equipment is cleaned to a high standard after use.
- Liaise with Therapy colleagues to establish and maintain a register of student equipment within the therapy department which logs relevant details including equipment that belongs to the student and new equipment that is ordered whilst at the Trust.
- To carry out risk assessments that enable children and young people to be supported in a safe environment.
- To work as part of a multidisciplinary team ensuring communication with colleagues and external professionals in relation to students’ support and care.

**Requirements**:
GCSE English and Maths grade C/grade 4 or above or equivalent level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy is essential
A good level of IT literacy is essential
Experience of working with people with multisensory impairments and/or complex learning difficulties/Autism Spectrum Conditions and disabilities is essential for this role
Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to write and maintain reports and student notes is essential
Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team is required, and good organisation skills
Skills and ability to implement programmes under supervision are essential for this role
Regular requirements to move and handle service users, who have a range of physical abilities, in a variety of settings including classroom, gym, pool areas, trampolines, residential units and some restricted spaces is essential
Regular requirement to support service users with behaviours of concern
