**The Youth Challenge Oxfordshire Programme**
- Youth Challenge Oxfordshire has run a successful and well-established youth group programme for vulnerable young people aged 13-21 years in Oxfordshire. Over the eight years that Youth Challenge Oxfordshire has operated over 150 young people have been engaged on the 18 month programme in 10 groups. Each group is supervised by a team of volunteer Group Leaders and meets one evening a week in term time over a period of 18-24 months. During this time the Group undertakes a three part programme of personal development and charity fundraising.
- The programme includes residential trips in the UK and the third part of the programme can include a residential trip abroad to carry out charitable work.
- When the young people have completed the programme, Youth Challenge Oxfordshire may provide support for them to pursue the next step in their education or career whilst encouraging them to continue to volunteer, either with Youth Challenge Oxfordshire or in their local community.
- Youth Challenge Oxfordshire also supports and facilitates the young people to complete their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

**Overview of the Role**
- The Community Development Manager works directly with the volunteer group leaders to ensure they are delivering the Youth Challenge Oxfordshire programme effectively and feel supported in their role. As such they will be the first line of contact for the volunteer Group Leaders.
- The Community Development Manager reports directly to the CEO and is supported by the Operations Manager with administration and recording of events.
- The role requires attendance at evening youth group meetings especially at the start of each group’s programme so that the volunteer Group Leaders feel supported with good guidance. It also requires attendance at some weekend activities.

**Responsibilities: Working with Youth Groups**
- Works with the CEO to establish youth groups in areas of Oxfordshire where it has been identified and agreed by the CEO in conjunction with the trustees that there are vulnerable young people who would benefit from the Youth Challenge Oxfordshire programme and is viable.
- With the CEO and Operations Manager decides the launch date and venue and identifies those to be invited to the launch.
- Attends the launch and makes a short presentation if required
- Researches and confirms with the Operations Manager a suitable venue.
- Works with the volunteer Group Leaders and local agencies to recruit and register young people into the group with particular awareness of the age and social structure of the group.
- Works with the Operations Manager to ensure all young people are correctly registered.
- Continues to develop the Youth Challenge Oxfordshire Programme for each group based on the new programme in conjunction with the Group Leaders and support them in delivering the three-part programme through regular liaison, support and attendance at group meetings especially at the start of the programme.
- Supports the Leaders to ensure fund raising activities are well planned, managed, financed and appropriate for the group. Attends some events especially at the start of the programme. Keeps both the CEO and Operations Manager informed of any plans.
- Discusses with Group Leaders and agrees dates for residential trips. Works with the Operations Manager to book the trip and the transport.
- Supports the Group Leaders in planning residential weekends and attends if possible. Assists the Leaders in judging if the group is ready as a team to embark on a volunteering trip abroad.
- Works closely with the CEO, Operations Manager and Group Leaders to plan and coordinate each Youth Group’s 10 days volunteering abroad.
- Ensures feedback from all activities is sent to the Operations Manager for impact measurement and publicity.

**Working with Group leaders**
- Assists with the recruiting of Youth Group Leaders and conduct the Youth Group Leaders’ induction meeting with the CEO.
- Ensures the Youth Challenge Oxfordshire programme is established and agreed with the Youth Group Leaders and make sure they know what is planned for each half term.
- Works with the Operations Manager to design and publicise the programme for each group.
- Works with the Group Leaders to ensure the smooth delivery of the Youth Challenge Oxfordshire programme.
- Supports the Group Leaders through regular contact and attendance at some group meetings especially at the start of the programme.
- Covers or ensures cover is arranged for Group Leaders if they are unable to attend meetings and events.
- Works with the Group Leaders to maintain contact with the young people after the Programme wherever possible and encourage them to maintain their link with Youth Challenge Oxfordshire.
- Ensures necessary training, safeguarding and first aid courses are completed by Group Leaders. Selects and advises on any other training that may be desirable in conjunction with the CEO.
