An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Assistant Practitioner with a special interest in respiratory care to join the well-established Wirral Integrated Respiratory Service.

The Wirral Integrated Respiratory Service is a team made up of a multidisciplinary team who all strive to work collaboratively to deliver the best respiratory care for patients on the Wirral.

The service delivers early supported discharge and admission avoidance for Respiratory patients, chronic disease management, pulmonary rehabilitation and a home oxygen service for all oxygen patients on the Wirral.

The shifts will be 9-5pm with the ability to cover an 8-8 service if required. The role is working 7 days a week including weekends and bank holidays

Although English and Maths at level 2 is not required for the role, it is a requirement to complete the apprenticeship and need to be in place by the end of the apprenticeship. If you do not hold or cannot evidence English and Maths at level 2 then support will be provided for the successful applicant(s) as part of the Trust’s apprenticeship offer.

The Assistant Practitioner will function at a higher competency level that that of other Health Care Support workers with responsibility for actively participating as part of the Multi Disciplinary Team within the team to provide a seamless service to patients with proximal supervision from a registered practitioner.

The Assistant Practitioner will provide general/specific care as specified below for a specific client group. The post holder will be able to deliver elements of health and social care and undertake clinical work in domains that have previously only been within the remit of registered professionals.

The post holder will work in support of qualified nurses and allied health professionals within the COPD and oxygen service. The role is flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the health and social care systems.

Whilst this role is being advertised as a permanent position, there is an expectation that the successful applicant must complete all elements of the apprenticeship. Initially, the successful applicant will be placed on a fixed term apprenticeship contract for the duration of the programme. Upon completion of the apprenticeship and providing all additional milestones are met, the successful applicant will be issued a permanent contract.
