**Main Purpose of the job**:
This is a permanent post in the strategic programmes communications team based within the corporate communications, marketing and engagement team. The strategic programmes communications team provides communications and engagement support for a range of priority council programmes. These include major infrastructure works, capital projects, regeneration and development schemes, climate action and active travel.

The postholder will be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating effective and engaging communications, consultation and engagement activity for a range of priority council strategic programmes.

**Main Duties**:

- Prepare, deliver and evaluate high-quality strategic communications and engagement plans covering media and public relations, stakeholder engagement, public affairs, digital and social media, consultation and internal communications that increase public understanding of and engagement with the council's priority strategic programmes.
- Advise and assist senior officers and councillors on strategic media handling, issue management and communications strategies to achieve the best outcomes.
- Support the senior communications and engagement officer in the analysis and reporting of the findings of consultation and engagement activity in appropriate formats for different audiences, working together with the council's wider engagement and consultation team. Quality assure the outputs from third party agencies if they are leading.
- Quality control communication and engagement collateral (strategic programmes), including the work of third party contractors, and manage the publication process. Negotiate amendments to ensure objectives are met and that the content is factually accurate.
- Proactively horizon scan media, social media and other channels to identify opportunities for the strategic programmes' work, which will benefit the reputation of the council, and scan and escalate potential risks. Proactively propose appropriate solutions, brief service leads and relevant stakeholders and prepare media or stakeholder response statements if required.
- Monitor media coverage and social media activity. Respond to comments, queries and requests and escalate where appropriate. Keep senior officer and councillors briefed on complex and sensitive reputational issues. Evaluate and prepare performance reports.
- Develop and maintain strong links with partner organisations, particularly their communications teams, and the wider communications, marketing and engagement team.
- Represent the communications and engagement team at internal and external meetings and events, proactively contributing and advising as necessary.
