We are looking to recruit a GP assistant to work 27.75 hours per week over 3 days. This post will cover 2 separate surgeries. The GP Assistant role is for an enthusiastic, positive, self-motivated individual who can work both independently and as part of a team providing administrative support to the doctors and health professionals.

The team meet regularly to discuss best practice and ways of improving our service and work very closely with other teams within the practice and community.

**Job Title: GP Assistant**

**Responsible to: GP Practice/Business Manager & Eden PCN Clinical Director**

**Hours of Work: 27.75**

**Base: Court Thorn Surgery/kirkoswald Doctors Surgery**

**Salary: £22,816 pro rata**

**Job Summary**:
A GPA will support the GP(s) smooth running of clinics by performing the routine administration/clinical tasks on behalf of the GP freeing up their time to focus on the patient.

**Main duties/Key tasks**:

- Sorting clinical post and prioritizing for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.
- Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes
- Dealing with all routine clinical post directly e.g. DNA letters, 2WW etc.
- Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments for patients
- Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, and benefits agency forms etc.
- Processing and following up referrals as required
- Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies
- Support the GP with care home round administration
- Support the GP with adequate and accurate summarization of medical records
- Work alongside wider practice and PCN teams who support GP administration to ensure a joined up approach and communication
- Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment;

- In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, Practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the Practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential
- Information relating to patients carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data

- Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines
- Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks

- Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
- Reporting potential risks identified
