Glade Academy are looking for a Site Officer to join their Operations Team to ensure that the academy is safe, secure and well-maintained.

At Glade Academy, the role of the Site Officer is an instrumental part of the Operations Team to ensure that the Academy site is a safe and well-presented environment for pupils, staff and the community.

The Site Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep, maintenance and provision of semi-skilled trade services or activities for school buildings, facilities and grounds to meet safety and quality standards.

Work activities and tasks are both reactive (in response to immediate or unplanned faults) and planned (tasked by the Operations Manager to achieve the estates management and compliance plans) to ensure the work and educational environment, safety, security and standards are maintained to a high standard in accordance with the school premises operating practices.

**Main duties and responsibilities**:

- ensure the provision of high-quality presentation, maintenance, security and compliance of the academy buildings and grounds, so that pupils, staff and visitors have a comfortable, clean, safe and well-maintained environment in which to learn and work
- complete day to day site matters and ensure Health and Safety compliance is delivered, providing a high standard of facilities services that are carried out within recognised procedures or guidelines
- be responsible for the security of the premises and its contents, including the operation of fire and burglar alarms. Maintain the security and safety methods for buildings and grounds, including monitoring and maintaining security systems to safeguard the school property and assets. Complete regular safety checks and take immediate action in case of hazards or emergencies in line with the relevant appropriate operating procedure
- operate as a key holder, with locking and unlocking responsibilities to ensure that all entry and exit points are secure during and after school hours. You will be required to be available for emergency call-outs if necessary. Time worked outside of ordinary working hours is paid in accordance with the pay terms and conditions of employment
- carry out routine and basic maintenance including premises repairs. Repairing minor faults within the building, workspaces, grounds or facilities such as bulb replacements, door repairs and equipment failures. Maintain all communal areas, carrying out minor repairs and reporting all major repairs, keeping and maintaining defect records. Maintaining inventories, maintenance and repair work logs and reporting these to the Operations Manager
- maintain the school grounds, including lawns, gardens, shrubs, flowerbeds and outdoor play areas. Removing litter and ensuring cleanliness to outdoor areas. Assisting with surface water, snow removal and gritting during inclement weather
- complete routine checks to heating, ventilation, boiler rooms, storage, lighting and water (including legionella flushing) to ensure areas are safe, maintained, compliant and functioning efficiently
- carry out waste disposal and recycling processes. Providing porterage, moving goods, furniture and assisting with deliveries, distribution of items and storage organisation
- carry out daily and weekly visual health and safety checks of premises. Provide completion records for statutory inspections and checks including (but not limited to) fire safety, condition and safety of tools and equipment, COSHH, asbestos and legionella as directed by the Operations Manager and/or Principal
- bring any initial quality discrepancies for outsourced or contractor services to the attention of the Operations Manager including the completion of satisfaction certificates by providing information about general standards of cleaning
- support the Operations Manager throughout the annual Health and Safety and Fire audit processes
- support centralised H and S and Estates Management and work in conjunction with outsourced cleaning, catering and lettings providers
- maintain awareness, knowledge and compliance with all trust and academy policies and procedures relating to Health and Safety at Work and recognise the responsibilities required under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other associated legislation. Operate within compliance frameworks set by EMAT.
