Job Purpose

We are looking for Graduate Operational Manager (Workshop Waste) to ensure the smooth operation of garage services including intermittent tanker loading and offloading, sampling, basic tank stock management and waste oil treatment to a specification and volume. To work with the Operations Manager on the day-to-day support of the workshop waste services business across Slicker and Third Party sites. This will include managing POs, third party suppliers, non-conformance reports, working in conjunction with logistics, commercial and operational departments. Management and production of Quarterly Returns to the Environment Agency. Supporting ongoing technical/process development via project work and providing temporary operational cover to other Slicker plants during holidays and sickness - particularly for Newport, Kingsnorth and Trafford Park.

Main Tasks and responsibilities

Process control

Working with the Operations Manager to ensure ULO/GS stocks are managed as needed. This includes understanding the tank usage and volumes available as well as storage capacity for packaged wastes.
Managing oil and waste inputs including sampling, analysis and vehicle off-loading when required.
Managing the Workshop Waste Services (WWS) business on a day-to-day basis including liaising with operational sites, logistics and commercial departments.
Checking and processing supplier invoices against WWS inputs and collections.
Raising purchase orders as needed for third party suppliers. Seeking appropriate approval of these POs prior to placing the orders.
Acting on non-conformance reports (NCRs) generated from the customer, collection or operational team. Recommending and implementing improvements to the WWS system.
Managing stocks of containers and labels & distribution to all serviced sites.
Pre-acceptance sampling of new WWS waste streams for compliance with the various Slicker Recycling site EA permits and permissions when required.
Preparing and updating monthly stock reports for WWS and any site that’s being operationally covered.
Assisting in the planning, booking and stock movements needed to support the WWS business.
Providing technical advice on waste acceptability to Commercial as required.
Preparing the EA Quarterly Returns and Operator Returns as required by various site permits. Liaising with IT to obtain and filter the raw data.
Testing samples of waste deliveries, and process and product tanks from the plant and reporting results to the appropriate personnel with advice on action to be taken.
Work across group sites as required and co-ordination with other Slicker teams to solve problems
Work Together with others and be a key team player in problem solving, communication, work planning and organising.
Be Smart, troubleshoot problems and provide reasonable resolutions.

General duties

General housekeeping duties to make sure that the working areas, process plant and laboratory areas are kept clean and tidy; consumable stocks are maintained as needed.
Completing all documentation in compliance with Slicker QC requirements.
Deputising for specific duties of the Operations Manager in their absence - such as preparing and approving supplier invoices and purchase orders.

Communication

To advise Operations Manager, Operations Director and HSEQ Manager in a timely manner about:
NCR trends such as incorrectly labelled containers or mis-described waste types
any observed breach in operational operating procedures or entry into the sites by unauthorised persons, being Honest
any pre-acceptance samples or waste oil acceptance samples that fail screening tests for determining their suitability for WWS or ULO processing and export
issues around the generation of EA Quarterly Returns and Operator Returns.
To advise the HSEQ in a timely manner about:
a breach in the company’s health, safety, quality or environmental management system
defective or missing safety devices, such as interlocks, barriers and fencing, lock outs, alarm or detection equipment, etc.
near misses, safety improvements, accidents or incidents.

Promptly report any concerns of potential or actual pollution to the environment as a result of the site’s activities to their line manager or in his absence, the HSEQ Manager
Be Reliable in playing their part in upholding the level and quality of service provided by the business and help meet the expectations of its customers.
Comply with the requirements of all approved test methods, operating instructions and management procedures pursuant to the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017
Maintain confidentiality for all information obtained or created during the performance of operational and laboratory activity

Skills & Key Requirements Skill's & Key Requirements

Minimum of 12 months working in a hazardous waste management environment
Must be flexible, with a willingness to work flexible hours as needed
Experience of working with packaged waste and mineral oils
A solid understanding of operating EA permitted facilities in a compliant manner
Should possess these core competencies:
Good standard of numeracy and literacy
Accuracy and precision
Effective communicator
Initiative
Willingness to undertake Certificate of Technical Competence (CoTC) training for waste treatment and transfer
