To deliver an environment that is safe, with minimum fire risks, so that the highest standards of care can be made available to staff and patients.
- Provide a comprehensive, inclusive and professional fire management service for the Trust.
- Review existing fire safety arrangements with the Trust and liaise with local Fire Authorities, Police, local authority and other parties as necessary.
- Provide expert advice on all fire related matters to senior management as and when required.
- Carry out inspections and risk assessments using specialist fire safety knowledge. Develop and implement action plans arising from the inspections and risk assessments.
- Plan, organise and deliver training to all staff and levels on fire related matters in line with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and HTM 05-03.
- Work closely with partners and landlords of properties fire advisors on fire safety matters relating to the buildings, which the Trust occupy to ensure the highest standards of fire safety.
- Responsible for the implementation of fire safety features and arrangements in Trust owned buildings.

Specific Responsibilities

To advise management of their responsibilities in respect of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

To undertake complex and highly detailed risk assessments and inspections using the techniques of Fire code: HTM 05 series. This includes the identification and assessment of fire risks in the premises. Based on these assessments provide reports/action plans recommending prioritised actions in respect of fire safety improvements.

Provide specialist advice to Ward/Department Managers with the implementation of actions arising from the risk assessments/inspections.
Plan and organise fire drills with Ward/Department Managers and assist the Emergency Resilience Manager with ‘live’ exercises.

Assist Ward/Department Managers in ensuring that all staff are familiar with the fire evacuation procedures in their respective areas. Carry out ‘table top’ exercises with Wards/Departments to test this knowledge.

Liaise and review with the landlords of other premises which the Trust occupies to check that statutory responsibilities with regard to Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and HTM 05-03 are carried out.

Review and develop fire safety policy and strategy and review policies and strategies for other sites where the Trust provides services.

To provide regular reports on fire safety to the Trust’s Health and Safety Committee.

Review fire related incidents reported through the Trust’s Datix system and carry out thorough investigation where required.

Plan, organise and deliver training to all staff and levels on fire related matters in line with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and HTM 05-03.

To undertake mandatory training in line with the Trust’s requirements.

To undertake additional training as deemed appropriate by Line Manager.

To maintain and be responsible for own practice development portfolio.
