Job Title: Housekeeper

Reports to: Manager of Home

Scope of Post

To share with other staff in meeting the standards of hygiene and cleanliness as set by management to satisfy registration requirements. This is to be achieved with the minimum interference with each resident’s right to privacy, independence and respect, and to ensure, above all, that the Home, its furnishings and equipment are clean and safe at all times. Company Rules and our Values Statement bind all employees, which are detailed in separate documents.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

- To clean and disinfect all toilets, baths and sinks at least once per day;
- To check & keep hand wash, paper towel & toilet paper stocked up in all areas at least once daily
- To empty all bins at least once per day; to clean all bins after disposal of refuse and/or supply replacement liner as required;
- To sluice and polish as required all communal, washable tiled areas always ensuring that appropriate hazard signs are clearly displayed for the safety of residents, staff and other visitors;
- To vacuum all communal carpeted areas on a daily basis, if this hasn’t been done by night staff. To wash woodwork including stairs banisters and hand rails down daily.
- To clean & tidy Managers Offices, kitchen, bathroom and staircase once weekly
- To maintain all windows internally in a clean, safe and hygienic condition. To ensure curtains are hanging properly. To maintain & clean net curtains as required.
- To maintain domestic stores & carry out stock control, order as necessary
- To report promptly to management any observed deficiency in maintenance or safety around the Home;
- To treat the private rooms and possessions of residents with respect, maintaining a standard of cleanliness within such rooms that complies with Health & Safety and registration requirements while recognising the individual right of the resident to choose how the room is to be kept;
- To ensure a clean, comfortable and safe environment for Residents, clients, visitors, staff and members of the general public.
- All staff should be aware of the St Andrews Care Homes Infection Prevention and Control strategy and their local reduction of infection plan and know their role. In keeping with the key principle that Infection Prevention and Control is everyone’s business.
- To take part in staff and residents meetings and to attend training sessions when requested;
- To read and write reports; to take part in staff and residents meetings and attend training sessions when requested
- To protect residents and other vulnerable people from harm and to have a duty to whistleblow if witness to bad practice or harm to a resident within the home.
- To carry out any other duties that occur from time to time as may be required by supervisory staff

**The above Job Description represents the full role of an adequately trained and experienced person. In most instances the appointed person will require training to fulfil some aspects of the job.**

**On appointment the manager undertakes to do a training needs assessment with the appointee, with appropriate time scales clearly defined.**

**At the end of an agreed probationary period a full review will be undertaken**
