Overall Responsibilities The post-holder will be expected to develop, in conjunction with the department, a comprehensive service for stroke within Sunderland, and contribute to out of hours stroke thrombolysis, and weekend/Bank Holiday review, as part of the designated South of Tyne model. The post-holder will be expected to provide, in conjunction with the department, a comprehensive service for inpatient and outpatient neurology. Inpatient care will be undertaken as part of the team, and an on-call service on a 1 in 6 basis will be developed, to provide daily input into IAU, to support and develop ambulatory pathways, and undertake regular emergency out-patient reviews. Out-patient care will be undertaken with clinics in both stroke and general neurology, and a sub-specialty, in discussion with the clinical director, lead clinician, and directorate manager.

Some sessions, in particular audit and teaching sessions will be worked flexibly and there will be the opportunity to revise the fixed procedural sessional timetable to accommodate other commitments of the appointee. The post holder is expected to attend monthly Directorate meetings. The Clinical Director is Dr Richard Telford. The Clinical Lead for Stroke Services is Dr Nikhil Majmudar.

The Clinical Lead for Neurology services is Dr Gina Kennedy. The post holder will be expected to develop the service in keeping with national guidance and the Local Modernisation and Reform Group priorities/targets. Consultant performance is monitored within the Directorate and strong emphasis is given to personal career development. Clinical Responsibilities The post holder will across stroke services: In patient care of patients with acute stroke is delivered from the Acute Stroke Unit based on ward E58, in conjunction with the other Stroke Physicians.

High risk TIA clinics are run daily in a dedicated TIA clinic facility within SDEC and ASU, and general TIA clinics will be within the post-holders job plan. Daytime responsibility for thrombolysis assessments will be shared with the current consultants, with out of hours assessments being performed through a dedicated telemedicine service. Across Neurology services the post holder will be expected to provide, in conjunction with the department and their agreed personal job plans, a comprehensive service for in-patient and out-patient neurology. Inpatient care will be undertaken as part of the team, and an on-call service on a 1 in 6 basis will be undertaken, to provide daily input into IAU, to support and develop ambulatory pathways, and undertake emergency out-patient reviews.
