Kilve, United Kingdom Somerset County Council Full time

**Why should I choose Somerset Council?**

Well, for a start, we’re a hugely ambitious council, committed to improving lives for the residents, communities and businesses of Somerset.
And that’s why we’re working so hard to build a sustainable organisation with a culture that rewards, values and recognises our staff, and gives everyone here the opportunity to grow and develop, personally and professionally.
If you’re looking for a place where you work truly matters - where YOU truly matter - we might be just right for you.
We also promote a healthy work-life balance and offer flexible working arrangements wherever possible, including working from home.
We are looking for several Seasonal Instructors to join our SSE: Outdoors team at Kilve Court (near Bridgwater) and Charterhouse (near Cheddar).
This will be on a fixed term contract until the end of November 2023. The role is for 37 hours per week but on annualised basis.
What will I be doing?
At our Outdoor Activities Centres, we enable young people to discover what they can do - not what they can’t. Every child is encouraged to imagine, discover and achieve, and our fantastic instructors are the people who make this happen.
We are driven by a passion for residential outdoor learning where life lessons are learnt, and memories will be cherished. We want more amazing people to join our team
What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
We are looking for instructors with the following experience:

- At least one year working in the outdoors with young people.
- In-house experience of ‘onsite’ activities (such as low ropes) and/or 2 NGBs (such as GNAS, Walking Lowland Leader or Climbing Wall Award).

A first aid certificate is essential for the role, however mandatory training will be arranged if necessary.
All of our instructors will be able to take advantage of gaining qualifications in mountain biking, paddle sports, outdoor first and target sports, funded by SSE Outdoors, as well as the opportunity for D1 training.
Onsite accommodation can also be considered, at a greatly reduced fee.

What will I be offered in return?
We are proud to offer an environment that is supportive and rewarding, working as part of a team who are passionate about the work they do to improve the lives of people in Somerset.
We offer great training and development opportunities, with supportive management. As well as this, we have some fantastic employee benefits available:

- We promote a healthy work-life balance and offer flexible working arrangements wherever possible, including working from home.
- Generous annual leave allowance, with the opportunity to purchase additional leave.
- Staff discounts in gyms.
- Employee Assistance for the times you may need some support and a variety of employee wellbeing services.
- Auto enrolment onto our generous Pension Scheme and optional pension enhancement through our Additional Voluntary Contribution scheme.
- A Flexible Benefits Scheme via salary sacrifice to obtain a cycle for work and health screenings.
- My Staff Shop offering discounts in shops, online shopping, restaurants, cinema tickets, insurance benefits and more.

Anything else I should know?
From 1 April 2023 the County and District councils in Somerset were replaced by a new single unitary authority - Somerset Council. It’s an exciting time to join us as we work together with the four district councils to deliver the new council for Somerset.
We offer a comprehensive CPD support package and funding is available for training. The role will involve working evenings, overnights, and weekends.
The salary for the role is Grade 15 ranging from £20,812 and £21,189 per annum.
