An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced midwife who is committed to delivering outstanding care, continuous quality improvement and a positive safety culture.

Working in collaboration with the obstetric and gynaecology clinical governance leads, and key stakeholders in anaesthetics, neonates, and paediatrics, the post holder’s focus is ensuring a safe high quality service and outstanding patient experience.

Key responsibilities include leadership and coordination of clinical governance and risk management processes and contribute to the safety and quality agenda within maternity.

The post holder has an important role within the maternity service of coordinating the interface between the women and families that use the maternity service and the Senior Maternity Management Team. This role is vital to the implementation of the quality agenda in accordance with local and national policy and initiatives. The post holder will work with the Maternity Management team to ensure the depth and breadth of techniques are implemented to ensure that women have a voice within the service. The post holder will be expected to integrate women’s views in a variety of ways i within the Maternity service’s governance structure and processes.

The postholder will be involved in delivering key initiatives to ensure women and families have the opportunity to make their voice heard influence the future direction of the maternity service. The post holder will also be required to be involved in the complaints process and provide direct feedback to women and their families as and when required.

The post holder will be required to ensure that any change or lessons learned are escalated and discussed with those providing the maternity service to enable learning to take place.

- Ensure that the Maternity Risk Management Strategy is effectively conveyed to all staff and is translated into operational practice.
- Undertake clinical incident investigations (including serious incidents), write up reports of such investigations, make recommendations and ensure action plans are implemented.
- Actively review themes and trends that emerge as a result of incidents whilst disseminating any findings across the maternity service for learning
- To develop and monitor action plans to minimise risks, including identifying resource implications, changes in clinical practice and administrative procedures required.
- Assist in the maintenance of the Maternity Risk register - this involves working with clinical staff to identify risks and carry out risk assessment
- Act as a point of contact, by being highly visible and approachable to staff, women and their families using the service, and the public so that open and honest communication channels are created and effective assessments of care delivery and risk management can be undertaken
- Audit of practice where appropriate following investigation into clinical incidents and ensuring that any necessary changes in practice are incorporated into Divisional policies and guidelines
- Answer formal and informal complaints when required and provide feedback to women and their families either face to face or via a written response
