An exciting secondment /fixed term opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic and well-motivated Speech and Language Therapist to provide advanced speech and language therapy input to the inpatient service at Aintree hospital. You will be part of an innovative team currently providing inpatient and outpatient services across several specialist areas and will work alongside the current clinical lead and respiratory SLTs to provide ongoing input.
- To manage a caseload of adult patients admitted to the acute general medical wards, presenting with a wide range of acquired communication and swallowing impairments, carrying out highly specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment in order to maximise communication and swallowing difficulties.
- The primary care of responsibility will be within the acute medical teams, where the majority of patients are referred for support with dysphagia.
- To supervise and support development of less experienced members of the team.
- To be able to contribute to the current IP VFS/ FEES service as required.
- To work within professional standards and local protocols, procedures and guidelines.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.

To be an expert practitioner, to develop skills required to practice at an advanced level and to use an extended scope of practice beyond own profession.

Identify appropriate interventions and treatments to be undertaken within the context of the overall treatment plan.

Demonstrate an advanced level of decision making with regard to assessment, intervention and evaluation of patient care.

Assess complex health and wellbeing needs and develop, monitor and review treatment plans to meet individual needs.

Assess psychological and physiological function when there are complex needs.

To provide specialist advice to other therapy team staff on the management of complex cases and ensure systems to monitor referrals within the service

To comply with Health and Safety Policies of the Trust and demonstrate compliance with all mandatory training requirements

To support development of therapy policies and guidelines and co-ordinate the implementation of and adherence to relevant Trust-wide policies.

To comply with HCPC Standards of Proficiency and adhere to Standards of Performance, Conduct and Ethics for own profession Jan 2021

To act as clinical lead for audit and research and provide support and training in audit for junior staff and to incorporate outcomes and lessons learned from audit activity in the development of future clinical practice and service delivery

To develop a training strategy for the team, encompassing competences for safe practice and liaising with key departments.

To regularly deliver formal and informal training to other healthcare professionals and staff groups, including pre and post registration training for medical and nursing staff.

To organise and lead in-service training programmes when required.

To contribute to the dissemination of good practice across professional boundaries including the delivery of external lectures and training.

To support clinical supervision and peer review for relevant staff
