**College Painter and Decorator**

**The role**

Murray Edwards College is seeking a Painter and Decorator to be responsible for carrying out the College’s painting and decorating needs.

You will have experience with all aspects of painting and decorating, have the ability to communicate in a friendly and helpful with all members of the College, as well external visitors, and be self-motivated with excellent timekeeping.

Key responsibilities of the role are:

- Provide a pro-active review of planned and, where applicable, reactive work around the College in relation to the internal/external condition of the various properties both on and off Campus
- Carry out internal and external painting of the College’s properties both on and off campus
- Carry out minor render repairs to masonry and brickwork when applicable, prior to decoration
- Minor filling and repairs of internal and external woodwork where applicable prior to decoration
- Carry out tiling where appropriate and required
- Minor repairs to windows/window frames and doors/doorframes both internally and externally
- Repairs, varnish and staining of hardwoods
- Clearing of roofs and gutters, as and when required with the Maintenance Team
- Working with the College Plumber, Carpenter and Electrician in making good post ancillary works
- Assist with the Planed Preventative Maintenance Strategy with the Head of Buildings, Facilities and Maintenance
- Order materials from nominated and preferred suppliers/wholesalers to facilitate the role
- Maintain, inspect and replenish PPE
- Maintain dedicated ladder inspections
- Inspect decoration repairs and finished paintwork by nominated contractors, as and where applicable
- Identify materials, take measurements and prepare material order schedules for review by the Head of Buildings, Facilities and Maintenance
- Ensure that we follow the College’s sustainability policy, ensuring that we use eco-friendly and non-oil paints/products throughout the College and that all nominated contractors follow the College’s policy
- Ensure that the workshop is maintained in a clean and tidy manner and that equipment is serviced and operated properly
- Ensure that site workplaces are maintained in a proper manner
- Check material delivery notes and control material waste environmentally in accordance with the WEE regulations.
- Working knowledge of COSHH regulations and storage of materials
- Maintain material stock records within your control and liaise with approved and nominated paint and decoration suppliers
- Control safety and observe College Health and Safety protocols and ensure the welfare of all colleagues in the workplace
- Comply to applicable safety regulations, guidance and controls
- Attend out of hours emergencies as per the Call Out Rota
- Maintain suitable & sufficient materials for the role
- To undertake and assist with other maintenance as required by the Head of Buildings, Facilities and Maintenance
- To undertake a planned programmed of maintenance as directed by the Head of Buildings, Facilities and Maintenance and the Maintenance Supervisor

**About you**

You will:

- NVQ / Qualification in Painting and Decorating
- Experience with all aspects of painting and decorating:

- All of aspect of painting
- Paper hanging
- Aspect of solid surface repairs
- Site Experience
- Good IT Skills
- Good Communication skills
- Knowledge of other trades. i.e. Electrical or plumbing working is desirable
- The ability to communicate with all College Fellows, staff, students and College visitors in a friendly and helpful manner
- The ability to maintain good working relationships and to communicate clearly within his or her team
- To be able to keep abreast of new legislation and demonstrate willingness and ability to learn
- Good Timekeeping
- Self-motivated

**Flexibility and hours**
- This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week
- College operates a hybrid working scheme of up to two days per week from home for eligible roles.
