Health Care Assistant

We are looking for an experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly and dedicated team at Branch End Surgery, Stocksfield.
The practice has been a family doctor service in the village for over a century, and the practice has expanded and developed to serve the needs of an ever-increasing population of over 5000 patients.
The team contains 3 GP partners, Practice Manager 2 salaried Gp's, 2 Practice Nurses, 1 HCA and our Admin Team. We are also a teaching practice and welcome GP registrars, FY2 Doctors and 3rd, 4th and 5th Year medical students every rotation.
In addition we also work very closely with our District Nursing Team, Health Visitors and Midwives, Podiatry and Dietician.
Main duties of the Job
As a member of the nursing team, you will be responsible for helping to deliver both safe and effective patient care to our community. This will involve supporting high standards of infection control procedures and ensuring the smooth running of the clinical services provided by the practice supporting the nursing team as described below. You will be working closely with the both the clinical and administrative teams to deliver excellent patient care and should be a good communicator who enjoys working as part of a team and with people.
Job Responsibilities
Healthcare Assistant
Reports to: Nursing team and partners.
Hours: 16 hours per week Monday-Friday
Job Summary:
Working under supervision of the practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
Job Responsibilities
- Undertake, record and follow guidelines for tasks for which you have received appropriate training
- Phlebotomy tasks and the accurate recording and handling of samples
- Urinalysis and other samples
- Taking Patient's blood pressure and monitoring accurately
- Monitoring and issuing home BP monitors
- Administer vaccinations including Flu, Pneumococcal, COVID 19
- Administer live vaccinations including shingles, MMR, Nasal Flu
- Administer Vitamin B12 injections
- NHS health checks
- Chaperone Duties
- Clearing and re-stocking consultation rooms
- Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patient's and well-being
- Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
- Assisting with the collection and collation of data needs to be related to health and well being
- Summarising of new patient records.
Other Tasks
The above is not an exhaustive list of duties, and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation and the overall business objectives of the organisation.
Health and Safety
The post holder will assist in promoting and maintain their own and other's health, safety and security as defined in the practice health and safety policy, the practice health and safety manual and the practice infection control policy and published procedures.
This will include:
- Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines
- Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
- Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
- Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
- Actively reporting of health and safety hazards immediately when recognised
- Keeping own work areas general/patient areas clean assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holder's role
- Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum annually)
- Reporting potential risks identified
Personal/Professional Development:
The post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, and will:
Participate in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development
Take responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrate skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work.
Quality
The post-holder will strive to maintain quality within the practice, and will:
- Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk
- Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions, either directly or under supervision.
- Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own ands team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance team performance
- Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patient's needs
- Effectively manage own time, workload and resources
