Each year, around 40 million fans attend football matches in the Premier League and EFL. Their job is to keep them safe.

This is a rare opportunity to join our client as part of their Inspectorate team.

Role overview

This is an exciting time to join them. They are:

- Overseeing the wider roll-out of licensed (safe) standing areas at their licensed grounds;
- Working with DCMS and other Departments on the forthcoming Protect Duty legislation, regulation of football and the review of women’s football; and
- Continuing their commercial contracts with the England and Wales Cricket Board, Sport Northern Ireland, FA Wales and the Scottish Government.

Inspectors are responsible for providing advice and guidance on a wide spectrum of spectator safety issues within football grounds in the Premier League and English Football League, as well as across a range of other sports.

The Inspectors’ role involves frequent interaction with local authorities, football clubs and other interested parties, with visits to sports grounds on both event and non-event days.

Duties include:

- Overseeing the annual licensing process for clubs in your portfolio and work with them to identify and implement improvements where concerns have been identified.
- Taking a risk-based approach to their regulatory role in overseeing a portfolio of certifying authorities.

Person specification

They are looking for someone:

- With proven understanding and experience of project and programme management, including risk management; and
- Strong partnership working experience with the ability to negotiate and influence, including in challenging circumstances.

Ideally, they are looking for someone with experience and/or understanding of:

- Integrated safety management;
- Spectator safety in the UK and/ or at international sporting events; and/or
- Inspection or management of safety at large premises where the public have access.
