Healthy rivers are essential for both humans and nature, but they are under serious threat from
pollution, climate change, habitat loss and water scarcity. Tackling these issues requires
holistic understanding and an effective approach.
South East Rivers Trust [SERT] is seeking a passionate and ambitious Catchment Officer
to lead our growing River Catchment Partnership programme in Surrey, South London and
Kent.
The role is part of SERT’s Science and Partnerships team, which is at the heart of SERT’s
vision for healthy, thriving rivers in the south east. The team brings together multiple
stakeholders, from landowners to businesses to local community groups, to collaborate and drive
a holistic catchment based approach to understanding issues that are impacting the rivers and
their catchment areas. And most importantly, to identify the solutions and projects that will
restore them.
As a Catchment Officer, you will lead, chair and manage a one or two Catchment Partnerships
across Surrey, South London and Kent. The role will suit a natural leader who is passionate
about water environments, and who possesses strong communication skills and the relevant
scientific and/or technical knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
land management wetland design aquatic biodiversity
habitat enhancement nature-based solutions biodiversity net gain
natural flood management fisheries science water resource management
Using evidence-based data you are able to understand and distil issues the catchments face. You
should be comfortable working closely with partners to co-design solutions and projects that
will provide multiple benefits which will ultimately improve the health of the river and its
catchment.
Now in our 21st year, SERT is one of the largest regional rivers trusts, protecting rivers
across the south east of England for future generations to come.
