We have an exciting opportunity at Royal Mail for a Head of VAT to join us, located in either London or Chesterfield (Hybrid Working with 2 days in the office). The Group VAT position is complex and changing and this a vital role in ensuring compliance and supporting the commercial business.

As Head of VAT, you will work in a key strategic role as part of an established Tax team with development opportunities.

You will support ongoing legal developments and regulatory issues as well as new initiatives and acquisitions provide a great opportunity for any new recruits to quickly become a specialist in this unique area of VAT and offer the chance to be involved in some huge challenges.

**About the role**
- Play a key role in managing VAT and relationships with tax authorities, advisors and business partners
- Be an internally recognised expert source of knowledge on a very wide range of indirect tax issues. The focus is primarily on VAT issues but encompasses all other indirect taxes.
- Provide technical support and advice to internal customers on a variety of projects (including IT systems) to ensure compliance and efficient.
- Ensure a robust governance framework is implemented for VAT and support SAO processes and liaising with internal and external auditors.
- Support and develop the VAT Manager and VAT Compliance Manager as well as the wider team.
- Provide support to senior managers and advice to other team members on all areas of VAT compliance and advice
- Review principal group VAT return, and review other UK and overseas subsidiary VAT returns, as required.
- Manage preparation of partial exemption special method calculations and gather relevant information from across the group.
- Keep appraised of changes in tax legislation and case law developments
- Provide training and guidance to staff at various levels
- Develop knowledge of regulatory regime and support of colleagues in design of products and/or negotiations with Regulator
- Determine VAT treatment of new products and income streams and ensure treated correctly within financial accounting systems

**About You**

To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills and attributes;
- Strong technical VAT ability
- Ideally at least seven years VAT experience either in practice, HMRC or an in-house environment
- Numerate and strong analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to deal with a cross section of the business at all levels
- Ability to drive change across processes, systems and people.
- Ability to effectively contribute to negotiations with tax authorities and lobbying groups on complex issues to

achieve a positive outcome for the group
- A Tax or accountancy qualification is preferred
- IT literate - with proficiency in Excel, Powerpoint and preferably SAP
