This post is ideal for an SLT with a specialist interest in the area of communication disabilities post-stroke within the community and social setting. The demand for our services is high and we are keen to recruit an enthusiastic, innovative and committed speech and language therapist to join our SLT team working throughout Northern Ireland.
As part of the SLT stroke pathway, this role involves working closely with NHS SLTs in delivering structured SLT group programmes across Northern Ireland to stroke survivors living with a communication disability post-stroke and their families. This could be either working within a group environment or working 1-2-1. You will be responsible for training Stroke Association volunteers to support you in delivering the service, working both virtually and in person.
Alongside providing structured SLT programmes, there is also the opportunity to get involved with additional projects being devised and delivered within the Stroke Association such as the Aphasia Online Peer Support group and working closely with the University of Ulster in delivering the ‘Experts in Aphasia’ programme.
This role requires an SLT who is creative, innovative and flexible when working within the Stroke Association. You will also need to have good time management skills; be able to work independently as well as within the team and work closely with the SLT manager and senior management team.
Key responsibilities will include:
1 - You will deliver a structured Speech and Language programme to stroke survivors living with aphasia/a communication disability as the result of a stroke.
2 - Your role will also involve training and liaising with colleagues in the statutory sector.
3 - You will act as an ambassador for the Association with the aim of creating awareness of stroke and aphasia / communication disabilities post-stroke, and encourage referrals to our services.
This role requires extensive travel across a large geographical locality to visit people at home and in community settings.
To fulfil the role, you must be a resident of the UK and have the right to work in the UK
