**Job Purpose**
As Research Impact Officer, you will work closely with research staff and management to provide support for research impact arising from research within the College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow. Working as part of a small team, the role involves proactively supporting key academic and professional service staff to identify opportunities for research impact, develop the College impact opportunity pipeline and ensure that impacts are investigated, and that academic leads are supported to track and clearly evidence outcomes and impacts throughout the research lifecycle.
The role will include providing guidance and support to individual members of academic staff and researchers to accelerate the impact from the outcomes of their research through impact planning and engaging target audiences.
The role will also contribute to creating a reportable database of impact stories, impact projects, and REF-appropriate impact case studies that will be used to raise the profile of the College’s research impact, both internally and externally, and to support the College submission to REF or similar reporting.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**-2. To help develop and manage the College Impact Pipeline, maintaining an overview of the progress of impact development plans and supporting the progression of opportunities, including information gathering, drafting, and involving relevant staff as appropriate.
3. To support awareness and education around research impact, including one-to-one advice and the creation and delivery of training/workshops, to support colleagues to identify and progress impact opportunities, develop impact case studies and offer best practice advice to gather evidence.
4. Identifying and proposing support/funding to strengthen the impact from case studies in the pipeline, including helping to quantify first and second order impacts.
5. Working closely with researchers and the College impact team to secure support to undertake or commission impact development activities.
6. To work proactively with lead academics to ensure strong impact evidence is gathered.
7. To maintain a detailed knowledge of research impact within the HE sector, including policy development from UKRI and other major funders, and disseminate to College staff, as appropriate.
8. Be actively involved in appropriate Cross-College / University wide collaborative working to build networks and share best practice.
9. Contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of systems and procedures to ensure continuous improvement in the performance of impact support. Investigate any issues arising, and identify those with wider implications, developing systems, processes, and procedures to ensure such issues are resolved.
10. Responsibility for coordinating the College REF-related impact activities, including the identification and delivery of impact case studies for future REF submissions, within the plans and timelines agreed.
11. Assisting with other projects and activities, as requested by the Deans of Research and of Innovation, Engagement & Enterprise; Director of Professional Services; Head of IEE Services and other senior colleagues as appropriate.
12. Any other related duties, as required.

**Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience**

**Knowledge/Qualifications**
Essential:

A1 Normally Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) in a discipline relevant to the College or alternatively possess the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience, with experience of personal development in a similar or related role.

**Desirable**:

B1 Knowledge of the academic research environment and research impact agenda, including the impact assessment framework standardised through the REF.
B2 A comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of HEI organisational structures, policies and procedures.
