About NCC Group Public Affairs
NCC Group is a FTSE250 global cyber and software resilience business which exists to make the world safer and more secure.
NCC Group Public Affairs exists to create a conducive political and regulatory operating environment, with improved cyber rules and regulations that unlock the growth potential for our shareholders, help our customers to achieve their full potential, and allow our colleagues to use their insights, knowledge and expertise to help educate decision-makers.
The function reports to the Global Chief Technical Officer (CTO).
We employ a diversified public affairs strategy:
- We want to know, and be known, by the right people: we engage with key decision-makers and influencers, and develop and maintain relationships across a broad spectrum, raising awareness of and educating on the challenges around cyber and the best path forward, to help make an impact on the resilience of our societies.
- Success means that we are a trusted partner to governments, regulators and third sector stakeholders, seen as offering evidence-based solutions to modern society's cyber challenges, that genuinely deliver better informed decision-makers, and improve policy outcomes. We are recognised as a key part of a strong and growing cyber security industry, and that recognition helps unlock commercial opportunities across industry sectors and geographies.
- We understand and make the most of what's happening around us: we stay on top of the political agenda and know how it affects us and how we best respond.
- Success means that we are able to turn political developments into commercial opportunities and use (planned) regulation to drive the development of our solutions, customer propositions and markets.
- We make the world how we like it: we influence to shape the landscape, environment and markets we operate in.
- Success means that we effect material policy, regulatory and legislative change, minimising risks and removing barriers to the business, creating a globally level playing field or competitive advantage.
We take pride in our ability to enable revenue, through:
- Increased profile, reputation and credibility that support client and talent attraction;
- Offering customers a ‘reason to engage’ and supporting sales and marketing plans;
- Market understanding and alignment that supports service line development and growth; and,
- Demonstrating added value to our customers and minimising risks for our internal teams.
You will join a small but passionate and ambitious team that will allow you to leave your mark and provide significant opportunity for personal and career development. This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who is looking for the next step in their public affairs journey, in an ever evolving and multifaceted industry sector and a growing and ever-changing business.
Our achievements to date include: developing in-depth relationships with DCMS and informing policy thinking on Secure by Design and smart city proposals, ultimately leading to (among other things) the introduction of the
Product Security and Telecoms Infrastructure Bill
; the creation of the
CyberUp Campaign
to advocate for reform of the Computer Misuse Act that has culminated in the Home Office launching a formal review of the Act; and, joining the Cyber Growth Partnership and gaining a seat at the table as the
UK's National Cyber Strategy
was developed and now implemented.
The opportunity
Building on our success in the UK, we are looking to build out and expand the Group Public Affairs function, engage with key stakeholders on an increasingly regular and systematic basis, add additional resource to allow us strategically to support other areas of the business, and position NCC Group in broader areas of cyber debate.
The role will report directly into the UK Head of Public Affairs, and work closely with colleagues in other core functions such as Group Corporate Affairs, Group Marketing, Global Research and Sales Enablement.
Your key responsibilities
To lead on:
- Monitoring and assessing political and regulatory developments relevant to NCC Group’s commercial objectives, maximising the output provided by our external monitoring agency. This will include providing analysis, identifying opportunities and conversation points, and working with Marketing to support the delivery of interesting and engaging marketing campaigns. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of interesting and critical policy issues, from cyber security and digital policy through to emerging technologies and R&D.
- Managing aspects of NCC Group’s engagement with elected politicians, civil servants and other political and regulatory stakeholders such as think tanks. This ranges from face-to-face meetings in Westminster through to site visits at NCC Group offices. You will also represent NCC Group externally on trade association working groups and at industry and political conferences.
