An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 Assistant Psychologist to work within the SBUHB Older People’s Mental Health Psychology Service. The post is full-time and fixed term for 12 months. The post involves working under the supervision of a Practitioner Psychologist to support the delivery of psychological assessment, formulation and intervention on the older people's inpatient wards across the health board. The older people's inpatient wards are based at Tonna Hospital, Neath and Ysbryd y Coed, Swansea.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and / or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Travel between the two inpatients sites will be essential.

THIS POST IS FIXED TERM FOR 12 MONTHS DUE TO DUE TO MEETING THE NEEDS OF THE SERVICE.

If you are an internal applicant this post will only be offered on a secondment basis and you will need to have gained your line managers approval for the secondment prior to going to interview.

- Assessment of people referred for psychological/cognitive assessment,
- Provide supervised psychological intervention and help provide training and support to non-psychological staff in psychological models and approaches.
- The role will include providing cognitive stimulation therapy and life story work.
- Utilise the Newcastle model to understand people presenting with distressed behaviour on the wards, this will include information gathering, observations, evaluation and information sharing with colleagues.
- The role may include co-facilitating therapeutic groups alongside a qualified mental health professional from OPMHS.
- The role will include assisting the practitioner psychologists in evaluating group interventions, through the maintenance of a data base and subsequent statistical analysis to report on clinical outcomes.
