**Background to the company**

Business Education Partnership (UK) Ltd, known as BEP Group, is a registered Charity, focussed on the delivery of education and employing around 40 staff and consultants.

Currently we have two main areas of work: work experience for children aged between 14 and 19 and alternative education for children aged between 14 and 16, who would benefit from a smaller setting or are at risk of becoming NEET.

Our work experience service has been running since 1992. Our alternative education programme has been running since 1999 and became a registered independent school in 2018 - (BEP Academy).

**Purpose of the role**

To conduct health & safety checking visits for work experience programmes; to ensure that children are safeguarded whilst on work placement.

To strengthen employer links with the Business Education Partnerships and promote other BEP activities where appropriate.

This is a new post to support and build upon our existing team of Health & Safety Officers.

**Key Areas**
- To attend an employer’s premises to assess the suitability of the workplace to host a work experience placement (following national guidance) for pre or post 16 students.
- To carry out an assessment that will include health and safety, a risk assessment and child protection and to explain clearly to the employer their responsibilities for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of the student.
- To signpost employers who need further guidance to appropriate bodies.
- Discuss suitable activities for students on work experience and liaise with employers to obtain a basic placement description, risk assessment and signed Letter of Understanding.
- Advise employers of the BEPs duty to safeguard children in education and ensure that employers are fully aware of child protection guidance.
- Advise employers of their legal responsibilities to ensure the health, safety and welfare of any young person whilst in their care.
- Ensure that employers have suitable and current Employers Liability Insurance.
- Where applicable, discuss and arrange for a Criminal Records Bureau disclosure check to be completed (instruction will be given)
- Market BEP services and encourage sign up of employers to a regular placement offer
- Liaise with office staff to ensure good flow of communication and attend training / development meetings.
- Be able to effectively use electronic tablets for recording visit data.
- Download and upload visit data by deadlines given.

**Other areas**
- Be familiar with the Health and Safety Policy and ensure that high standards of Health and Safety are observed, including when working off site and/or within other institutions
- Be familiar with the Equal Opportunities Policy and put it into practice

**Person Specification**
- Hold a relevant health and safety qualification (eg IOSH Working Safely, City & Guilds 3680) or be prepared to attend training and ensure that these qualifications are maintained.
- High self-motivation and the ability to use initiative.
- Good team working skills.
- Manage own time and work independently.
- Represent the BEPs and be able to act professionally and appropriately at all times.
- An understanding of work experience requirements for young people (14-19).
- Experience of health and safety in the workplace.
- An understanding of child protection and the duty to safeguard children in education.
- An understanding of how businesses could participate in work experience programmes.

**Hours**

Number of days, visits and weeks/months worked is negotiable, and as required on a casual basis. Our busiest time of year is between January and June.

**Salary**
- £22 per completed Health & Safety visit (such fee to be inclusive of value added tax if applicable) and inclusive of accrued holiday pay. We estimate one hour per-visit on average but could be less if located in a similar area - we would expect between 5 and 8 visits to be completed per day.
- Reasonable travel expenses will be covered - public transport travel receipts to be provided for reimbursement.

**If appointed you will be required**:

- To observe our Child Protection, Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities Policies.
- To undertake a DBS (criminal record) check.
- To provide references.

Everyone employed by the Business Education Partnership is responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children they are responsible for and / or come into contact with.

**Job Types**: Freelance, Zero hours contract
