**Summary**

As an established local mental health charity providing a range of services and development opportunities to individuals experiencing poor mental health across Barrow, Ulverston and Millom, we have an active volunteer base with a strong emphasis on offering volunteering opportunities across all our services. With a strong emphasis on involvement and participation we are particularly keen to offer volunteering opportunities to those who have direct personal experience of poor mental health or who are in the process of recovery.

**JOB PURPOSE**

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the recruitment, induction training and development of our volunteer base. With the support of the Peer Support Coordinator you will be responsible for developing robust volunteer operating systems within Mind in Furness, which will include health and safety, safeguarding and ensuring equality of opportunity

Volunteers come from all walks of life and volunteer for many different reasons so the ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people is essential including the promotion of opportunities with mental health service users, other local groups and partners, statutory mental health services and the local community.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Core Accountabilities**

1) To increase the capacity of Mind in Furness by working to an active and targeted recruitment programme

2) To ensure volunteers, and in particular those who are experiencing emotional distress or are in the process of recovery are supported in their role to increase volunteer retention

3) To work with the Peer Support Coordinator and other staff, volunteers and service users to develop a best practice volunteering framework.

4) To oversee the administrative systems in place to manage the process of volunteering across our organisation

**Recruitment and Induction**

5) Attend recruitment events, and liaise with CVS and other projects to manage ongoing recruitment and build capacity in our teams

6) To act as a central point for recruitment of potential volunteers, including initial interviews.

7) Contribute to operational planning processes by regularly reviewing how many volunteers are needed and for what roles

8) To identify specific volunteer roles, develop role descriptions and actively recruit to these posts in conjunction with other Mind in Furness staff.

9) To provide planned induction for all new volunteers (alongside project specific induction).

10) To ensure all volunteers have relevant references and checks including DBS checks required to ensure compliance

11) To promote volunteering opportunities in the wider community and to network appropriately to this aim.

**Training and Support**

12) To undertake training needs analyses for volunteers and develop a training programme to meet the identified needs and maintain programme of ongoing volunteer training and development to meets service need

13) Produce annual skills audit for volunteers to assist in recruitment and training and development

14) Develop/regularly review an induction programme, volunteer handbook and training programs for volunteers in conjunction with other staff & external providers.

**Managing people**

15) Work closely with the Service managers to broker support for volunteers within the organisation who are experiencing emotional distress or are in the process of recovery.

16) Work alongside the Support team to ensure volunteers practice in a safe, competent, and person centred manner and follow all Mind in Furness policies and procedures.

17) To ensure all human resources issues are managed within Mind in Furness agreed policies and procedures

18) To ensure feedback on performance of volunteers through agreed performance management and support systems and ensure development is appropriately managed.

19) To manage volunteer shift patterns and rotas and ensure that time volunteered is recorded accurately.

20)To ensure where it is a condition of the role volunteers have had DBS clearance before taking up appointment.

21) Work with the staff team to ensure we have systems in place to recognise and reward volunteer participation and achievement

**Managing Quality**

22) To ensure that there is a strong level of user satisfaction to the services provided by delivering services that meet Mind’s Quality Management Standards

23) To work with the Management team to ensure regular consultation us undertaken to measure satisfaction but also to inform service development and delivery.

24)To manage complaints and incidents as detailed in policies and procedures and to communicate issues to Chief Officer via the management team

**General Accountabilities**

25) Contributing to the overall vision and mission of Mind In Furness and play an integral part of the team
