Job overview
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and well motivated individual to the role of a Band 5 Clinical Technologist in the Radiation Physics Section of the Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering Department in Nottingham. Radiation Physics is a highly specialised section within the department providing scientific and technical support to departments using ionising and non-ionising radiation both for treatment and diagnosis.
They will participate in a 3-year apprentice program in collaboration with the University of the West of England. The apprenticeship will focus on Radiation Physics, but will also introduce the wider role of Medical Physics within the NHS, leading to the award of the BSc (Hons) in Healthcare Science (Radiation Physics) upon successful completion.
During the course of the apprenticeship trainees will be paid annex 21 i.e. - 60% of top of band 5 in year one, 70% of top of band 5 in year two and 75% on top of band 5 in year three
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will provide technical services including quality assurance testing of diagnostic imaging equipment (X-ray and ultrasound) and phototherapy equipment (blue-light and ultraviolet). The appointee will participate in patient dosimetry programmes and will also be encouraged to take part in development work.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Undertake routine tests of complex X-ray equipment requiring precision measurements.
Undertake routine tests of diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound equipment.
Undertake routine tests on phototherapy equipment.
Provide support to the patient dosimetry measurement service.
Communicate with clinical users to gain a clear understanding of the nature of problems with equipment and act on this information accordingly.
Liaise with clinical staff to plan quality assurance tests.
Liaise with manufacturers’ engineers to obtain information and provide feedback on equipment.
