**Service Support Worker - Emergency Department**
**Location**:Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Emergency Department, Rhuddlan Rd, Bodelwyddan, Rhyl, Denbighshire, LL18 5UJ**
**Contract type: Casual**
**Hours per week: Various**
**Salary: £10.90 per hour**
**Driving: Full UK Driving Licence required allowing to drive a manual vehicle**

- O_ur emergency department service involves greeting and supporting patients, talking with their next of kin, giving out meals and refreshments, providing practical support such as getting a pillow for a patient, talking to someone who is anxious and in distress. Generally providing the support you would want to experience when attending an A & E department.
Your days will be spent speaking to and supporting patients and medical staff so that the hospital can run smoothly. Your work will help free up clinical staff’s time. The people you support will come from all kinds of backgrounds and you may spend time supporting someone with dementia, or distributing hot meals to those awaiting treatments, or driving someone home after they’ve been discharged.
**A day in the life of a Service Support Worker will involve**:
- Escorting patients to assigned departments.
- Collecting prescriptions to speed up their discharge.
- Providing emotional support/pastoral care while they await treatment.
- Providing emotional support to close friends and families
- Ensuring patients have food/drink while waiting for long hours and assisting with food distribution at mealtimes.
- Driving patients home when discharged and making sure they are safely settled at home.
- Signposting and referring patients to other sources of support in the community.
**To be a successful Service Support Worker, you’ll need**:
- To know how to improve service quality for the benefit of users, dealing with queries in a diplomatic and confidential manner.
- A good knowledge of services provided by the NHS and Social Care.
- Education to GCSE level (or equivalent by experience).
- To be IT literate.
- Full UK driving licence allowing you to drive a manual transmission vehicle.
