ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an exciting time to work for Stevenage Borough Council and you will play a key role in helping us deliver on the strategic priorities set out in the Council’s Corporate Plan - Making Stevenage Even Better (2024-27). In this role you will be working at the heart of the Council in the development and implementation of its performance management framework, taking a specific lead across the functions of risk and corporate governance.
- You will be central to promoting and supporting effective strategic and operational risk management. You will have experience of maintaining and updating corporate risk records and working with others to monitor and review their operational risks.
- You will be comfortable advising officers on risk assessment, controls and risk treatment and making presentations and delivering workshops on risk assessment and treatment.
- You will have experience of implementing risk management processes, observing best practice nationally and driving innovative approaches to ensure the Council is actively monitoring and managing risk to inform business insight.
- You will lead on regular monitoring and reporting on corporate governance standards, reviewing arrangements and compliance against legislative requirements and best practice, recommending remedial and improvement actions as appropriate.
- You will be comfortable challenging others to build on good performance, ensuring that the council continues to deliver best value to residents.
- You will lead and facilitate associated corporate risk and governance meetings, producing the papers for senior staff and elected Members as required.
- In partnership with the Human Resources (HR) Team you will ensure appropriate arrangements are in place for responding to major incidents in Stevenage and be available to support the response to any incident within the Borough in and out of

office hours. This will include supporting HR to ensure that business continuity arrangements are recorded, tested and people are trained on a regular basis.
