We are looking for someone who is passionate about hospitality and will work well within a friendly and fast paced environment, handling multiple tasks at any one time.
Management:
- To work with the Chef Manager taking accountability for the Gasworks Café, its staff, profitability, and menus.
- Provide leadership and management of the café staff in outstanding customer service, efficient food preparation, sustainable practice, and stock control.
- Contributing to a positive work environment
- Implementation of policies, procedures and practices Safer Food, Better Business.
- Compliance with health and safety and food hygiene and food safety policies and procedures
- Being aware of and following operational policies and procedures
- Being punctual and maintaining regular and consistent attendance
- Create a monthly rota for all café staff and manage staff absences and holidays.
- Ensure all staff complete their timesheets accurately.
- Work with the Chef Manager to undertake appraisals and career development opportunities for café staff.
- Ensure compliance with SHS Shield Food Hygiene system, ensuring quality control and hygiene systems are always achieved and recorded correctly.
- Undertake training of new café staff to ensure compliance with all SHS procedures.
- Ensure the till is kept up-to-date
Café Service
- The Café Supervisor will be expected to work in the café including evenings and weekends.
- Serving students, staff, and customers with a smile
- Prepare food either by heating it up or cooking it to order using portable cooking appliances (grills, fryers, hot plates, etc.)
- Following recipes and presentations for food and beverage items
- Grinding and brewing coffee and other hot beverages
- General food and drink prep (sandwiches, salads, smoothies etc)
- Developing and maintaining knowledge of our menus working with the Chef Manager
- Consistently providing well-crafted, beautifully presented, and tasty food and beverages
- Taking orders and receiving payment
- Speaking and interacting with students, staff and customers in a positive and professional manner
- Decorates the food service area depending upon season, speciality days etc.
- Achieving food budget cost controls, ensuring minimum waste
- Maintaining a clean and sanitised working environment at all times
- Manage the successful running of the café.
- Be knowledgeable and confident about all products that are served.
- Know the ingredients in the food and whether each dish is vegetarian, vegan, can trigger allergic reactions, or satisfies other dietary restrictions.
- Cleans up food spills and keeps the service area presentable.
- At the end of your shift ensure all your areas are left clean and tidy
Stock Management
- Ensure that sufficient supplies for the effective running of the café are always maintained.
- Create and maintain efficient stock management system.
- Ensure all café staff are trained in efficient stock handling.
- Working with the Chef manager to create and maintain good supplier relations ensuring good quality products and at the best price.
- Ensure the café meet financial targets.
- Work to budget

Must be Level 3 Food Hygiene trained or be willing to undertake this training.
40 hours per week
28 days holiday
Cafe currently opening time vary from week to week depending upon events however as a minimum the café is open 7:30 - 6pm Monday to Friday and 7:30 - 2pm on a Saturday.
**Salary**: £26,000.00 per year
