**About the Role**:
Walton Medical Centre is looking to recruit a qualified phlebotomist who has experience in taking bloods within either a primary care or a hospital setting. The hours are flexible and we will consider both part time and full-time hours.

Working under the direction of the lead nurse, and as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team, the post-holder will be responsible for performing tasks to include:

- Working strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols to assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care;
- Collecting samples of blood in accordance with training and procedures, ensuring correct storage, labelling, recording and efficient dispatching of samples;
- Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible, and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample;
- Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible;
- Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff;
- Notifying the GP of any significant patient issues;
- Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and pro-active phlebotomist to join the team based in Walton Medical Centre. All applicants should have:

- experience of using clinical systems such as SystmOne and EMIS;
- knowledge of using the equipment properly;
- experience of maintaining a high level of infection control, awareness of infection control protocols and knowledge of safely managing equipment.

**About Us**:
Walton Medical Practice is situated in the traditional seaside resort of Walton-on-the-Naze, on the Essex coast, with a list size of just over 8,300 patients. As well as 2 GP partners and a salaried GP, the practice team includes a clinical pharmacy team of 2, a nursing team of 10 and an efficient and effective reception and administrative team of 18. The practice is committed to the principles of the Improving Working Lives (IWL) Standards to provide a positive, employment friendly approach to the delivery of their healthcare service.

Walton Medical Practice is part of The Colte Partnership which was formed in June 2017 - it is made up of 9 local practices across Colchester and Tendring caring for approx. 95,000 patients. We also work as three collaborative primary care networks (PCNs) which span across Colchester and Tendring:

- Ambrose Avenue Group Practice, Riverside Medical Centre & Ardleigh Surgery
- Mersea Island Medical Practice, Tiptree Medical Centre & Rowhedge Medical Centre
- Walton Medical Centre, Colne Medical Centre & Wivenhoe Medical Centre

There is a wide socio-economic demographic served within this area, which will provide an interesting and varied case mix. You will be joining an enthusiastic team of clinicians and administrators.
