**About the Role**

**Base Location**: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to:

- Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Reading, Havant, Belfast or Dublin.

Travel to Glasgow will be required for team interaction (frequency to be agreed).

SSE Renewables is looking for a Technologist to join the growing, highly motivated team to be the principal driver of technology selection and understanding across PtX, through horizon scanning and assessment of new technologies, market engagement with technology supply chain and techno-economic assessments. In addition, you will have the enviable opportunity to develop and deliver the ‘Power-to-X’ roadmap for new and emerging PtX technologies which will secure SSE Renewables place as a leader in PtX.

The Technologist will also be involved in the development of large capital PtX projects, from initial pathfinder and early-stage concepts to ‘first of a kind’ gigawatt scale hydrogen production facilities. You will have an exciting opportunity to play a critical role in driving the development of these projects, including in the areas of electrolytic hydrogen production, system integration and due diligence of full value chain including hydrogen storage and transmission.

The key responsibilities of the Technologist will include both Market Development and Project-specific priorities;
- Lead research and innovation programs related to PtX, to deliver new and innovative solutions for future projects (onshore and offshore). This will include conducting technology optioneering studies, and cost benefit analyses and technology due diligence where applicable, to advise both project and asset teams.
- Maintain up to date technoeconomic assessment of full PtX value chain and enabling technologies, including cost and technology outlook for Green Hydrogen and its derivatives in all key global markets.
- The provision of technical input into market design consultation processes. Support the Procurement & Commercial Team in identifying and developing strategic relationships with key supply chain partners and deliver commercially astute early stage PtX concepts.
- Scoping, and subsequent review, of concept design and FEED studies, including engagement with, and management of, third Party contractors and consultants, and internal discipline specialists. You will work alongside the Procurement & Commercial Team to deliver these.
- Working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, reporting through Engineering Management on progress, including emerging risks and opportunities.

**What do I need?**

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- A broad overview of the technical energy landscape with an understanding of the multiple technologies needed across this landscape. Ability to challenge new PtX technologies that are being developed globally to determine whether they can be incorporated into any of the current or upcoming SSE PtX projects.
- Technical discipline experience relevant to renewable power generation and/or process plant engineering, preferably with knowledge in hydrogen, system integration etc. with demonstrable experience of integrating complex systems with multiple stakeholders, third party contractors and external bodies.
- Demonstrable design delivery experience across concept design and pre-FEED stages of large Capital Projects with synergies to electrolytic hydrogen production. Your experience should demonstrate your adaptability and flexibility to handle and deliver on multiple tasks simultaneously, along with an ability to be forward thinking, using your own initiative to work independently and lead on challenge areas.
