There have been a number of changes to the local health landscape including the development of an Integrated Care Partnership (ICP) in West Essex and the establishment of 6 Primary Care Networks (PCNs) around clusters of GP practices. Within this context of integration, in 2019 West Essex CCG commissioned an Integrated MSK service to be delivered by existing partners as an alliance with system wide monitoring for outcome. Outcome metrics were developed by an MSK Expert Oversight Group to monitor the contract throughout its lifespan. Princess Alexandra Hospital was awarded the lead provider role to be delivered under a capitated budget over 5 years. As part of the newly Integrated MSK pathway, a Persistent Pain service was launched in January 2019 with a focus on self-care, activation and self-management.
