About the job
**Summary**:
The work of the Regeneration and Private Investment teams cuts across a large number of local growth policy areas. Right now, our focus is working with the Devolved Administration in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to develop and deliver Freeports to every part of the UK. Beyond Freeports, our role is as regeneration policy experts within the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and the Cities and Local Growth Unit, supporting policy development that encourages private investment into regeneration.
We know that growth does not happen in the abstract. Different places across the country have different assets and opportunities to capitalise on emerging technologies or new global markets.
Our effectiveness as a team is underpinned by the relationships we build. We work hard to maintain and develop relationships with a wide range of stake holders across the public and private sector to understand local economies, identify strategic economic priorities and build partnerships between business, public partners and civil society to take action to drive local growth.
As a crucial member of the team you will have the opportunity to develop creative approaches to policy problems, working with local leaders across the UK, alongside ministers and senior leaders in Whitehall to make a real difference to local places and help to delivery on the Governments Levelling Up agenda.
**Job description**:
The Cities and Local Growth Unit is a joint unit between the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy.
Our mission is to empower places - from rural to major cities, from prosperous places to those facing challenges in the modern economy, to bolster their potential through boosting economic growth. We lead on a range of initiatives including support for towns and high streets; local strategies; devolution of powers and funding; and local economic intelligence. We work at a number of different levels, from the small neighbourhood to the large sub-national strategy. We work with partners across Whitehall. But what we are most proud of is that every day we work constructively and creatively with a range of private and public sector partners across the UK.
We aim to be the most outward facing part of Whitehall, and we reckon that’s what we are. We also have a strong commitment to the welfare of all our people, and we have a culture which takes mental health and work-life balance seriously.
- Organising workshops, meetings and supporting running of events.
- Stakeholder management, detailed minute taking and action tracking.
- Acting as the team’s project manager, monitoring and driving actions across a range of projects to ensure timely delivery of key milestones and helping to report to Senior Civil Servants.
- Contribute to, and assist in, drafting discussion papers for meetings with Senior Civil Servants and Ministers
- Developing strong relationships with internal and external partners though meetings
- Assist in drafting and replying to Ministerial correspondence
- Coordinating and maintaining teams toplines, feeding into briefing packs for Prime Minister Questions and other Ministerial debates and meetings
**Responsibilities**:
- Enthusiasm for working within a team to deliver shared objectives
- A passion for driving economic growth across all parts of the UK
- Clear verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to deliver high quality work at pace, responding positively to and dynamically to change
- Some understanding of project or programme management
- Good PowerPoint and Excel proficiency
- An interest in local growth and economic policy.
We are a small team who work flexibly and rely on strong working relationships to achieve our goals.
