Our South England Forest District team is made up of around 160 people. Our team contains a diverse range of roles - from wildlife rangers to civil engineers, and ecologists to marketing professionals, we all contribute towards the management of some 46,000 hectares (ha) of public forest estate and National parks that stretch from Sussex to Dorset, and from Berkshire to the Isle of Wight.

Forestry England is additionally at the forefront of connecting people with nature through public access and recreation, with over 363 million visits on the public forest estate every year. Moors Valley Country Park and Forest is one of two main visitor centres in South District. Situated on the Hampshire / Dorset border it is the busiest Forest Centre on the Forestry England estate, attracting over 850,000 visitors per year who come to enjoy our fantastic range of facilities including play equipment, miles of cycle and walking trails, Go Ape, Parkrun, events and much more.

We are looking for a Recreation Ranger to join our Moors Valley team, to be able to make a real difference to people and the environment through recreational management.

The successful applicant will play an active role in managing, promoting, and developing recreation facilities and opportunities on site, while supervising staff and maintaining excellent relations with our on-site partners and 3rd party businesses.

The role will work alongside the other Recreation Ranger and Recreation Manager to co-ordinate and deliver services on a day-to-day basis to ensure the smooth running of the visitor facilities.

The working hours are 37 hours per week and the successful applicant will be expected to work weekends and bank holidays on a 7 day rota with other staff.

**Job description**:
Key work areas:

- Manage an inspection system to ensure the safety of recreational and other facilities.
- Supervise the craftsperson team in the planning for and delivery of maintenance arising from these inspections and ensure that work is completed in compliance with Health and Safety policies.
- Assist with the planning and delivery of business plan objectives within the allotted financial year.
- Liaise with and support other district teams e.g. civil engineering or estates, to aid timely delivery of scheduled works and address any reactive works required.
- Support other staff with the supervision of volunteers to ensure they have a safe positive experience in line with volunteer management policies.
- Maintain and develop links with external partners and stakeholders to improve customer experience.
- Support the wider team in the development of the events programme and take opportunities to evaluate new ways of working.

**Person specification**:
**Essential**
- Experience of working in an outdoor setting with an emphasis on safety, efficiency, and excellent customer service.
- A sound knowledge of recreation facility management and practical maintenance.
- A good understanding of relevant Health & Safety practises
- Excellent team working skills.

***Desirable**
- Experience of delivering and developing visitor welcome and experiences.
- Experience of managing contractors in the outdoors.
- Forestry and / or land management experience, including the use of machinery e.g. chainsaws.
- Experience of supervising staff or volunteers.
