**Production Operator (GFM)**

Work hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday 6:00 to 13:00

Location: Hillsborough, Sheffield

Job type: Permanent, Full-time

Independent Forgings and Alloys (IFA) is one of the UK’s leading independent aerospace and industrial forgers. The unique feature about IFA is the combination of open and closed-die forging while also undertaking the whole production process from raw material to the finished product in one location. Operating from a 680 000ft2 facility in Sheffield, we manufacture high-integrity, open-die and closed-die forged components in nickel alloy, titanium, stainless steel and carbon alloys for customers and tier-one suppliers within the aerospace, nuclear, power generation, marine as well as oil and gas sector.

**Main Purpose of the Role**

Reporting to the GFM Manager, you will be responsible for shopfloor roles on the GFM Machine and may from time to time be asked to work in other departments.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Operating FLT/manipulators/charging machines/OHC.
- Locating, identifying, and selecting correct material for the furnace charge.
- Operating furnaces in line with planning sheets.
- Monitoring furnace chars for adequate operation during processing.
- Loading and unloading furnaces with FLT with gripper attachment or charger in line with planning sheets.
- Documenting charge layout.
- Tracking material movement through the department during manufacturing operations to ensure traceability and serialisation
- Operating Radiac chop saw.
- Hot material inspection during forging.
- Off-loading and marking up bars.
- Inspecting and marking finished cold product in line with internal procedures.
- Tool changing.
- Confined space entry (entrance and egress via a ladder or steep steps (confined space training will be provided).
- Maintain best housekeeping practices.
- Preparing hirework orders for despatch.
- Straightening of bars.
- Loading and offloading vehicles (OHC or FLT).
- Performing griding operation (Abrasive wheel training will be provided).
- Brinell hardness test (hardness testing training will be provided).

Any other duties as may reasonably be required.

**Skills and Experience**

**Essential**:

- Experience in working with hot metal.
- General manufacturing process awareness.
- FLT license and experience.
- Attention to detail.
- Self-motivated and determined to succeed.
- Good interpersonal skills, particularly team work.
- Process focused and compliant.
- Flexible and promote good working practices.

**Desirable**:

- OH Crane license and experience.
- Confined space trained.

**Qualifications**

**Essential**:

- Educated to 5 GCSE’s A-C or equivalent, including Maths and English.
