Independent Nuclear Assurance Assessment Group Head

Glasgow, United Kingdom EDF Limited Full time

We currently have an exciting Group Head opportunity within the Independent Nuclear Assurance function (INA).

**The Opportunity**

INA Assessment has the responsibility for providing independent oversight and assurance (including permissioning) to the company on safety cases and modifications to the design, construction, commissioning, operation, and defueling and decommissioning of the Company’s nuclear fleet. INA act as the internal safety regulator for the company, and its role is to provide an effective, visible, proactive and independent internal challenge function.

The INA Assessment Group Head role is a diverse and demanding technical and people leadership role and we are looking for individuals who will thrive with the challenge and can successfully balance the responsibilities.

This role can be based anywhere around our fleet, with some travel required.

**Pay, benefits and culture**

We can offer a competitive salary between £84,892 - £109,077 and you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

At EDF, everyone’s welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself. We’re committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’ll value the difference you bring and offer opportunities for you to thrive and succeed.

**What you’ll be doing**

Your role will be to:

- Provide technical and people leadership of an INA Assessment Group comprising several Nuclear Safety Engineers.
- Be, or be trained and mentored to become, an authorised Independent Nuclear Safety Assessment (INSA) engineer in accordance with the Safety Case Management process. This is in order to be able to lead a team of assessment engineers and, at the Group Head Level, provide effective internal regulation and challenge in all areas related to the nuclear safety - providing guidance on licensing and compliance matters as necessary.
- Operate effectively with the other Centre & Assessment Group Heads and the Branch Manager, taking an active role in the preparation and implementation of the branch business plans and forward strategy.
- Operate effectively with the wider INA Lead team and all INA role holders to operate the ‘One INA’ approach to consistent, timely and impactful regulation.
- Establish and maintain a strong relationship with colleagues at all levels in our nuclear power stations, in the central Technical Directorate, Nuclear Services and with external regulators.
- Be prepared to physically attend central offices at Gloucester Business Park sufficiently to establish and maintain key central role holder relationships.
- At times, travel to our nuclear power stations and other sites to support INA oversight activities.

INA strive to be influencers within the business, and for that reason in addition to technical competence, we look for good oral and written communications skills, sound emotional intelligence, and strong stakeholder relationship building.

You will be required to have an enquiring mind and demonstrate a strong questioning attitude to enable you to provide meaningful challenge to the nuclear safety cases. Problem solving, decision-making, negotiation and influencing skills will also be crucial in this role.

**Who you are**

You must have:

- A degree or equivalent in an engineering or science based discipline, and be able to demonstrate experience in nuclear safety related areas such as mechanical engineering, structural integrity, C&I, electrical engineering, fuel route, or reactor fault studies / PSA.
- Achieved or be working towards chartered membership of a professional body or appropriate Professional stature.
- A sound knowledge of licensing, relevant benchmarks, and a familiarity with complex safety cases.
- Experience in developing and / or assessing safety cases.
- The ability to challenge and influence staff in an effective manner, at all levels of the organisation.
- Excellent written and presentational skills.

Ideally, you would also have:

- Leadership experience.
- Thorough understanding and experience of regulatory processes and practices.
- A thorough knowledge of nuclear power plant theory, systems, components and operation in order to assess compliance with the nuclear safety case, nuclear site licence and other legislation.

Applications closing on 23rd June.
