**Job summary**:
DWP is the UK government’s biggest operational department with 70,000 colleagues responsible for delivering services to over 20 million people.

We are also responsible for delivering the government’s welfare reform programme. These reforms aim to make the benefit system fairer by:

- creating the right incentives to get more people into work
- protecting the most vulnerable in our society
- delivering a benefit system that is affordable and fair to taxpayers as well as claimants.

Decision Making and Appeals (DMA) Leeds contribution to making these reforms successful is to:

- provide legal expertise to DWP decision makers to make high quality benefit entitlement decisions
- liaise with policy and lawyer colleagues to ensure legislation is interpreted as intended
- draft submissions on Social Security benefits and child support appeal cases to the Upper Tribunal. Promoting the best outcomes for DWP.

**Job description**:
You will be required to manage the delivery of your own work, becoming an expert in a particular field of Social Security benefit. You will work as a part of a team, adapting and responding to an ever-changing policy working environment.

As part of your day to day role you will:

- conduct research and analyse complex information, consulting with technical leads where appropriate
- utilise expertise to provide case specific legal guidance to operational staff
- coordinate with stakeholders to quality assure a range of learning and development products.

Certain job roles may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account.
