Urgent action is required to deliver clean energy to limit the effects of climate change and meet people’s basic needs for clean water and affordable energy.

The **International Hydropower Association (IHA**) is a non-profit international membership organisation, whose mission is to deliver renewable energy systems, freshwater management and climate change solutions by advancing sustainable hydropower. Our partners include research institutions, non-governmental organisations such as the IEA and IRENA, governments, financial institutions and development agencies.

We are recruiting two **Research and Policy Interns** until the end of **November 2023**, to start as soon as possible. As well as monitoring the sector and managing our global hydropower database, we cover a broad range of topics including climate change, markets & finance, freshwater management and zero carbon electricity systems.

The intern roles provide critical data research, technical and policy analysis support to the Research and Policy Team at IHA.

IHA internships provide a tremendous opportunity to gain first-hand experience with the issues, organisations, and individuals across the world who are leading in the struggle against climate change. Our interns have gone onto a wide range of roles both within the IHA and with international businesses and organisations at the forefront of the energy transition.

**Key tasks**
- Research data on hydropower projects and update IHA databases;
- Research data on electricity markets;
- Organise conference sessions, webinars and workshops;
- Report on sector trends, challenges and opportunities, especially in respect of the global energy system and the energy transition;
- Support IHA’s knowledge networks and expert groups;
- Monitor specialist media and report on hydropower developments;
- Contribute articles for IHA’s website and publications; and
- Assist in ensuring IHA membership growth and value of membership.

**Essential skills and attributes**
- Masters-level education (this may be in policy, economics or similar studies, or a technical topic such as electrical, mechanical or civil engineering) or proven experience in a similar professional role;
- Understanding of global energy, water and climate challenges;
- Experience in analysing and communicating statistical information;
- A strong team player, but able to work independently and perform under pressure; and
- Excellent writing and reporting skills.

**Desirable skills and attributes**

- Previous experience in the international energy/water/climate sectors;
- Specific hydropower knowledge/experience;
- Knowledge of renewable energy policy and networks, for the XFLEX HYDRO role, specific knowledge on EU electricity markets would be an additional positive;
- A good understanding of engineering, in particular with reference to electricity, water management or hydropower;
- A general understanding of project finance and electricity markets and systems;
- One or more foreign languages (especially Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish or Portuguese);
- Knowledge and / or experience in a specific continent/ region;
- Experience working with events, especially in managing content;
- Project-management training and/ or experience; and
- Database management experience.

**Full time, temporary contract**:

- 37.5hrs/ week to run till end of November 2023

**Location**: Canary Wharf, London, E14 5AA - Hybrid working, you will be expected to work in the office at least two days per week.
