This role is about delivering the Council’s overview and scrutiny functions so that they continue to support effective decision making, improvement and citizen engagement.

This role is focussed on providing all participants in the scrutiny processes are provided with comprehensive and efficient support and advice, enabling them to discharge their roles effectively.

You will be part of a small team that provides impartial guidance and support to elected members, officers and external partners and stakeholders.

You will lead on the preparation and delivery of the overview and scrutiny work programme that meet statutory duties in line with the Council’s constitution. You will be responsible for the preparation and engagement prior to meetings, as well as the delivery of the meeting in a hybrid working environment, and the post-meeting tasks including reporting, actions and publishing.

Strong research skills are essential, as is the ability to ‘join the dots’ connecting policy, strategy and operational developments and the potential impacts these may have.

This role is a mixture of home working, and being on-site at various locations in Newport as required. Due to the nature of the role, there is a requirement to regularly work outside of normal business hours in order to support meetings. Flexibility is essential.
